I bought one of these in Dec. and having a great time with it. I ordered a Magpul CTR stock to replace the factory CAR Tactical one. I ordered the mil-spec version. Did I make a mistake not ordering the commercial one? My buddy says he'll buy it from me for his M&P15 if it doesn't fit mine. Why we would his be mil-spec and not mine? Thanks.

yours is commercial..... that is what RRA uses.....

Or you could buy a milspec reciever extension..... then it would be milspec..

Get an MOE commercial stock. I have one and it's a peach.  Cheaper than the CTR, too.

Dammit Jim.

Thanks guys. Trying to modify my order midstream now. I got a home for it even if I can't.

Why the diff on a spec rifle? I mean I get commercial vs. mil-spec. But what is the technical difference?

Anybody know what the reason for having two different sizes, just curious? It would seem more cost effective to make twice as many of the same thing, since they aren't that different from one another.

It is cost effective for companys to make commercial tubes rather than mil-spec tubes because commercial tubes are cheaper and easier to make, it's a manufacturing short cut.  They are also weaker than mil-spec.  If I were the OP, I'd keep the mil-spec stock and get a mil-spec extension, and properly stake the castle nut since RRA doesn't do that either.

Anybody here have a stock break because they were using a commercial tube vs a milspec tube?

There have been reports of commercial extension threads tearing out of the receiver.  This is because the threads on a commercial tube aren't as deep as the threads in the lower, and therefore create a weaker structural connection.

Granted, you'd really have to put the riffle through hell for this to happen.
