| Im buying my first AR and I think i have decided on RockRiver Arm's Entry Tatical. I was woundering if anyone knows a good place to purchase it from? any web sites ect? Oh, i was also told it was a good idea to upgrade to the Chrome linned barrel? it sounds like it would be worth it. Any advice? Thanks! |
I would reconsider and buy a Colt, Bushmaster or an Armalite
|
Nah... you'll be more than happy with RRA. www.eaglefirearms.net/Rock%20River%20Arms%20Rifles.htm www.adcofirearms.com/rockriver/rraffl.cfm?page=rra Hope this helps. I found them by googling RRA Entry Tactical. |
|
I considered the Colt 6920 and compared it with the RRA entry tactical... For me it ended up being a cost thing. RRA has recently added a gov't profile 16" barrel (chrome lined) to their line up which is why I went that route instead of the Colt.. To me Colt is all name. I work for a LE agency that has Colt 6721's and I see no "real" differences between Colt and RRA. Colt has the real M4 feed ramps and many RRA uppers have the lightly dremeled feed ramps. Not a big deal for me as neither is full auto. I went with RRA entry tactical and spent the "extra" money on an Aimpoint. You can get the gov't profile chrome lined barrel in 1/7 or 1/9 twist if that matters. I think Colt would hold it's value better, but I don't intend on parting with my RRA entry tactical.... RRA also has alot of factory accessories such as their dominator mount for the Eotech or the tactical carry handle for the Aimpoint, not to mention the NM triggers and winter trigger guards. Colt doesn't offer the Eotech or Aimpoint mounts. I like the RRA stuff as it matches the entry tactical... Thats just the way I am.... ETA: Bushmaster M4-gery's seem to be more available where I live. No feed ramps and their front sight bases are not the taller F marked type ( can just add a taller front sight post if using a flat-top). Otherwise on par with the RRA and Colt... |
| I've got a RRA Entry Tactical. Accurate and reliable as hell, nice finish. You definitely won't be sorry if you go with it. One malfunction in two years with mine and I attribute it to some shitty ammo I was blasting with. Shot MOA out of the box with WWB. Go ahead and get the chrome-lined barrel, too. It's worth the extra cash. |
|
I have owned Colt, Bushmaster and Olympic Arms rifles. The Colt and Bushmaster rifles were fine, but a little high priced. I bought a RRA UTE with mid-length handguards a few years back and it is a great rifle. I have an Aimpoint ML2 red dot scope on it. If I had to do it over again, I would spend a little extra money and get the UTE with detachable rear sight base (UTE A4). That way if you remove the sight base, you would have a wider variety of options for scope mounts, regular carry handle, etc. If I were purchasing a rifle tomorrow, I would buy another Rock River Arms. |
|
ADCO Great price and great service. I got my RRA there! www.adcofirearms.com/ ![]() |

Many of us are offering opinions based on our first hand experience with the different AR rifles on the market. Personally, I don't care what name is rolled on the receiver, as long as the rifle functions well and I get good service life out of it. Apparently you don't care for RRA. Do you work for Colt or Bushmaster Screech ? |
|
I can't see either because I would recommend a RR. I bought 5 AR's last year one of which is a colt. I am waiting on a second RR with SS barrel. With that barrel and the two sage trigger it outshoots my other AR's and has never failed. Sure there are minor differences in the Colt. The REAL M4 feed ramps and better staking of the gas key. But my RR will shoot rings around my Colt (yes it has a SS barrel) and for much less than the Colt. JR |
I have an Entry Tactical on order (apparently I'm one of the 'stupid guys') and wanted the lightweight bbl also. I asked RRA whether they would honor their 1 1/2" guarantee for chrome lined bbls. They said "no". The woman I talked to didn't want to tell me how well it would shoot so I elected to go with their R-4 heavy. You mentioned you do not have very many rounds through your rifle but...does it shoot as well as you'd have hoped? Have you been able to put any groups together yet? Thanks. Ryan |

PETE! www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=21&t=227878 Quote: ***IF YOU ARE NOT BUYING FROM US YOU ARE PAYING TOO MUCH*** Nuff said. |
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks, I needed a good laugh. P.S. for the record, I don't drink the Colt Kool Aid, I roll my own so to speak. That being said, to compare an RRA to a Colt is like saying a Yugo is every bit of car as a Cadillac.

Got mine from Eagle Firearms in Colorado. Timing must have been right because they had it to me in 2 weeks. Gov't profile w/lined barrel. Get a plain flatop. I didn't know any better and got the Tactical Carry Handle. Use that money to get a nice folding BUIS. I love mine. www.eaglefirearms,net Good Luck |
One thing you can count on, if a person is looking at RRA you'll have colt owners bashing. I think some are mad they paid 500 extra for a equal weapon ![]() I've had colts never cared for the stupid receiver block, trigger were gritty (RRA two stage is sweet) sloppy upper to lowers (RRA are tight) and point blank RRA are more accurate. My opinion should get the cult following panties in a bunch |
|
Ha! I don't even own a Colt. Like I said, I build my own so I am on top of my QC. But seriously, let's look at the differences. Barrel steel, parkerizing under the correct FSB, correct chamber, MP bolt, H buffer, mil-spec extension tube, barrel twist... And you want to tell me the a RRA is as good as a Colt? I think not. |
|
NIKON231, Colts are like Harleys, there not the best but people have a love for them. But unlike Harleys, Colts are one of the best. But in honesty there are better options than Colt for less money. Building your own best parts available , if you have the right knowhow. Buying the best and having it put together for you. (That's how I got along for years.) Or going for complete uppers and complete lowers and all you do is push two pins and save FET. CMMG, BCM, LMT and Sabre uppers and a quality lower and your good to go. If you want buy a BCG from Grant and your'll be set. Although the BCG I just got from CMMG was first rate (the staking). Just stake the castle nut and your good to go. As far as RRA being great that's up for you to decide. Personally you can build a better rifle for same money or less than RRA. I know that the RRA nm trigger is nice while it lasts. My friends went tango uniform at 600 rounds and I've read Mr. P. Rodgers say the same. His reputation and experiance are far exceeds mine so I will listen to wisdom. If your gong to build a varmiter by two trigger groups and have at it. On a rifle to blast with and to use if my life might depend on it a rock solid trigger is my choice. I'd much rather have a six pound triggers I can depend on than a 3 puond one I can't. As far as tight lower and upper fit go RRA if you want a varmiter. I've seen many RRA that you had to beat with a rawhide mallet and punch to get apart. I want to be a able to use my fingers on mine, to get into in one big hurry, as I usually don't have punches and a mallet taped to my AR's. And accruacy has little to do with receiver play. You may notice it if you were shooting at 600 yard matches and your a really good shooter. Accuracy has more to do with your barrel, ammo, and skill. Lastly I would never use Locktite on a commercial receiver tube when using the correct tube and staking would cost the same. And would never buy a rifle that the company (RRA) mangled with a dremel tool so you can brag to you buddies that you have M4 feed ramps, because you really don't need then unless you have a full auto. Expecially then they could have used the right extention and upper for the same price. Do a search under Pat Rodgers and listen to his wisdom. He does this for a living and has walked the walk. I liken it to this. If you are going to buy a car are you going to listen to the salesmen, a guy you never met on the e-net, or a nationally known, respected , independant mechanic that makes his living on cars. I listen to gentlemen that are known for being the best and not off the net for the 20 year old kid with the highest post count. I've been shot at before (hopefully never again) and I want the most bombproof tools I can get or make. For me RRA isn't the one. I can build better for the same greenbacks. AL |

I can't believe all the hate that comes out when someone wants to buy something other than a colt! What the heck is in that koolaid. How in the hell would a trigger wear out in 600 rds? Unless someone modified it and then blamed RRA? My NM trigger still has a mile of engagement and the only way to make it fail is to change the angle or a screwed up trigger job. Even if it did fail, RRA would defintely stand behind it and replace it. I will not be giving mine back any time soon. I have the Entry Tactical, Predator Pursuit, and am buying the Middy with some accesories from the factory. My Ar's are very clean, tight and very well finished. I would not hesitate to buy another. |
Simple, Once you handle a Colt, and if you are gun/QC smart you will see how Superior the Colt is! If you can not see the difference then stay with your RRA's. |
| Sorry fellas I'm not a Colt nut. Haven't owned one in years. Ok, RRA lovers answer this. Why do they dremel feed ramps that are not actually needed anyway? All this does is screw up the correct angles and grind of the (anization)sp? Wouldn't doing with out M4 ramps be better or just using uppers with the correct ramps? Why do they use locktite of their commercial receiver extention tube instead of using Mil-spec tube and staking it correctly? And why are their barrels not made out of 4150 instead of the cheap stuff? Do chrome line all their bores and chambers except their varmit barrels? Why on a fun blaster or a defence gun wouldn't you want to spend $30 extra dollars for a barrel that last longer, resist corrosion, and easier to clean? I do. I wouldn't have a problem with one of their varmint guns but the groundhogs don't shoot back. And why the heck with a 223. Wylde chamber. And the biggest point is.................( drum roll) you can built one right - cheaper!!! Now the 20 year old Special Forces kids at the range won't know what LMT, Bravo, Sabre , CMMG or even Stag are so they might snicker. Of coarse they have a RRA, or high speed Bushwacker, maybe even a Oly. But you'll know and others with knowledge know. Heck, I'd rather have Bushwacker, Stag, or a Oly and go though it and make the right changes than buy a RRA. Cause How are you going to fix the dremel hacking. Sorry about the spelling and grammer. I hurt my back and laid up today on meds. AL |
They are obviously drunk on the RRA Kool Aid. I asked the same questions, albeit in less words, on page 1. They are quick to defend but when presented with facts they just resort to calling names and say I'm drinking the Kool Aid of a Brand I don't even own. |

Try to feel better hail-caesar! I just know it goes bang every time I pull the trigger and its accurate. It doesn't have the snob factor, but if it runs, why knock it? I would never think about ripping a colt as they are a quality rifle. My feed ramp is polished. It doesn't mash up my ballistic tips at all and you can chamber a round and then examine it and they are perfect. Could it be done a different way? Sure, but it works just fine. I wanted the tighter Wylde chamber for my Varmit and my middy for target shooting. My choice is accuracy over ease of cleaning. I would definitely not classify the SS they use as junk. Staking the tube would just mean smashing aluminum into the threads and I could care less about that. You may have the time to build a rifle yourself, but I do not have that luxury. I do not have time to figure out each component and put it together in a perfectly functioning unit. I see posters with more experience than I, complaining that their AR is jamming in some way or another. My RRA function flawlessly from the factory where they are function tested anyway. That is worth an extra hundred bucks. |
To all of the cult poster, WHERE does nikon231 ask anything about colts. Answer, Not one fucking thing. If you have personal experince with RRA share, if not STFU and quit highjacking the man topic ![]() ETA to answer some of your question, Ive bought RRA products from both Pete and Chris from Eagle Firearms. great products and service. |
|
I have an RRA Elite Carry and the gun has not failed a single time. It shoots everything I put in it and funtions perfectly. The accuracy has been outstanding shooting surplus ammo - Radway. I have to admit my shooting range is limited to 200 yds. I don't see how you can go wrong with a RRA product. |

Well intelligent and discussion went out the window. So it goes on this site. Nikon231, I take it by your sign on name you may have something to do with photography. If you do then consider this. You have a choice of two cameras, your pick. #1 Is a Canon Rebel and the lens it comes with. #2 Is a Nikon D2x body and the lens of your choice, all you have to do is snap on the lens. What would be your choice. Oh, by the way both prices are the same. And you have to use the camera everyday to earn a paycheck. That is what I'm trying to convey. AR's snap together faster than you can put on a Speedlight. I thought all AR's were the same till I started taking training. One or two training classes are all you need to see which rifles run and which end up on the rack while you finish the class with a trainers gun. When these guys speak I listen because they do this every day. They know what works, what doesn't, and what rifles to build or buy. If your buying this rifle because you might one day unfortunately have to depend on it, do a little more research. If your trying to kill the coyotes that are eating your chickens, buy what ever you want. I recommend V-MAX! |

My current main squeeze is VLTOR'd RRA NM lower (bought during EBR ban) mated to an '05 chrome-lined RRA 16" 1in9 upper (like their DEA model). It works flawlessly, period. Eats everything from hideous chinese milsurp 55gr thru Q3131A, American Eagle, and ballsitic tip 55gr while still reliably throwing blackbox 75gr TAP downrange 200yds w/o keyholing issues. I really like that 3.5lb trigger too. Others may have different experiences, but I have no complaints thus far. I trust it. |
| I just posted this on another thread but it applies here also, and my fingers are getting tired. So your telling me that RRA finished product is the same as STAG, Noveske, Global Tactical,CMMG,Sabre, or Colt. Nope. Never seen a Stag that needed a puch and a mallet to open. AND I REPEAT, REPEAT NEVER SAID COLT WAS THE BEST. I've said there are better products out there than RRA at that price point. Actually I would use any stripped upper and lower over a RRA and add my own goodies. Heck, CMMG M4 upper with true M4 ramps, chrome bore and chamber, 1/7, parked under F front sight, Mp tested, with CMT FA BCG, MP tested bolt, $525. Stag, Double Star stripped lower $105. CMT lower kit $64. Vltor Club Foot $125. Pick your rear BUIS $100. 5 Brownells 30 rd USGI mags $62.50 =====981.50 . Throw in 20 bucks in shipping and at grand you have a damn good rifle and 5 mag with a Vltor milspec stock. Subtract 60 or so for a regular M4 stock. Ask CMMG when you call to stake the heck out of the key ( the one I bought last week was very well staked and that was the way their doing them all by the way) just to be sure. Stake the castle nut. Opps, forgot the crane upgrade for $3.50. Annndd awaaay youu go! Or complete Stag A3 upper with Arms 40 Buis, 1/9 chrome, with F marked FSH, parked under barrel, with CMT BCG for $489 with free shipping. Thats $845.50 with the Vltor Milspec Club Foot and 5 mags. Get a CMT Milspec stock and your under 800 out the door. Dang I better buy one.lol So the RRA rifle and all it's problems are aout of the qeustion for me because of goofyness (locktite and the famous dremel) of how they put their rifles together and PRICE!!! |
Congratulations, you made made a wise and informed choice. |
Ill throw up a picture here soon. i just don't have my camera with me at the moment. but it will be up soon enough :) |

I would go with a LMT RIFLE .. better then a rock river IMHO for not that much more money.(i HAD 6 rock rivers at one time, they are all gone now) Oh ya a BIG +1 FOR ADCO (They sell LMT stuff over there too), GOOD PEOPLE OVER THERE.
