Spend the $30 on practice ammo. I have 60yr old M1s, that have black, pitted, barrels from years of corrosive ammo and neglect. They still work just fine. I'm sure a non-chrome lined AR barrel will be just as well in 50 years. But that being said, its only $30. You choose. |

Spend the extra for a Chrome lined bbl. (That's what I would do) Like everyone will tell you, it is easier to clean, no brake in process, and will last longer. It is not as accurate as a chrome moly or a stainless bbl, but I've come to the conclusion that my 16" Dissy (chrome lined) shoots better than I can hold. If I where going to start competeing then I would get the other. Now as far as the gun lasting longer, I doubt very seriously that I will shoot out any of the bbls on my guns. If I do, I can always re barrel. Then again you can get a chrome moly for the same reason. More than likely you'll not shoot out the barrel, and the break in process isn't that big of a deal. I guess after you break it in the only real difference would be cleaning. If that's a big deal then get the chrome lined. Good luck.......... |

Crome bore is a lot easier to clean, dont have to worry about copper build up either if your using it as a target rifle. Ive come to the conclusion a good crome bore barrel will shoot just as good as a carbon steel or stainless steel barrel. Its all about what you feed it. |
