| A few months ago I purchased one of the m4a3 uppers from CMMG with the chrome lined chamber and barrel in the 4150 steel, I am really impressed with the fit and finish. Now I am trying to decide on purchasing a lower to mate it with. I have found a forged DPMS lower at a local dealer with an a2 stock, I really don't need the stock because I have an a1 atock that I plan on mating to it, for $250 out the door. I could purchase that or go with one of the forged RRA US property marked lowers through legal tranfers. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. One of the reasons I am considering the DPMS is that the upper is made by DPMS, I know that if they mil-spec they will mate up just fine, but any opinions will help. |

I used a forged DPMS lower with my CMMG/DPMS upper, and the fit is perfect. The price offered by your local guy, however, leaves a bit to be desired. You can get a forged DPMS lower for under $100 and the parts kit for around $60. That having been said, I would probably go with the RRA US Property marked lower, just 'cause of the cool markings. |
| I use DPMS uppers on all my AR15's. I also have a couple of the DPMS uppers on RRA lowers. The finish is very close on the two. However, the fit between DPMS uppers and RRA lowers is VERY VERY tight, and while it's not absolutely necessary, I did file the back of the upper rear tab (with sandpaper - 5 min job) to make the fit a bit better. Of course, I didn't have to do this, but then field stripping it requires a LOT of effort if you don't. It has been this way for all 5 of my DPMS/RRA AR15's. |

$250 out the door is a great price (if that includes tax). Sure you can get a lower for $90 here on the EE but not a DPMS for $90, then you have a $25+ transfer fee. The time you have to wait for it to come etc. You going and picking it up. Also the A2 stock and all the parts $55+ shipped. Internals $60+ shipped. Then the time you put the internals together vs one that is already done for you. The $250 is a good deal. You can always trade away the A2 shell on the EE or use it for an excuse to build the next rifle since you now would have the beginnings of one. Good luck. |
