hey.  my first build in progress. was going to assemble the upper myself and kinda wimped out.  looking to buy on a budget and stumbled on to the r guns website, which says their complete uppers are in stock.  googled reviews of them and the consensus is mixed.  I trust this board and was wondering if anyone has feedback on them.  been to spikes, bravo.  always seem to be sold out, backordered etc.  what about delton, rra for complete uppers.  Have a spikes lower and want to build a 16" plinker/target gun with my son with flip up sites and quad rail.  my problem is that my tastes are champagne, and my budget is (cheap) beer. thanks for any feedback.

I'd sooner buy a high quality upper with standard HGs than a questionable upper with a low end rail system.

You can always add accessories, but you can't add more quality to the barrel, bolt, etc unless you replace them. Then you're out at least half the cost of the original parts AND the cost of replacements.

If you know you want high quality, you will eventually be disappointed (whether it's because the upper doesn't work right or simply because you didn't get exactly what you wanted) and you will spend triple trying to make a cheap upper "better". there are plenty of deals to be had on the EE that will get you where you want to go if you're patient and help you stay within your budget.

Good luck.

About 3 years ago I placed an order from R Guns. Back when the assault type rifles were in high demand. There was a very long wait on all of their weapons. It took about 4-5 months to get my order. Everything arrived like they said. Did not have any issues with either gun I ordered. (Order was for 2 DPMS Sportacle models) Both arrived with consecutive serial numbers. They do note on their site and in shotgunnews that they will not combine shipping. And I have also heard that if you somehow do have an issue (missing parts or whatnot) they take their time to correct the problems. If you are ordering a complete rifle from them I would not hesitate to order from them if they have the price you are looking for. Small parts I may think twice. But that is purely my opinion.

My first order with them went fine, the second was a nightmare. I ordered a 6.8 SPC upper. It came to me with a 5.56 bolt. They wouldn't send me the correct bolt until they received the wrong one. Sent the bolt back and they sent me another 5.56 bolt. Once again, they wouldn't send out a replacement until the second incorrect bolt was returned. Sent the second bolt back and finally got the correct bolt. Took over a month and a half for the entire process. I won't be buying from them again.

I have an R-Guns Lower and it is VERY tight when it comes to magazines.  PMags have to be yanked from the gun and standard GI mags will not drop free either.  I have to pull them out.  The finish inside the upper is extremely rough also almost like they didn't do any prep to it before the finish.  I will eventually replace this lower when I get around to it.  I will never buy one of their products again.

Also, I have a couple RRA uppers, a couple CMMG uppers and a Del-Ton and they all work just fine.  No complaints.

There's no reason gove your business to this shady outfit that sells questionable quality parts when there are several reputable online shops out there with competitive pricing that sell higher quality parts.
