I'm quite impressed with much of you AR-15 knowledge, so I want to pose a question.
I read alot on this site about replacing factory part A with a different companys part A, then swapping barrels for a different twist, after that is done use a heavier spring here and a lighter spring there. And wow, just Wow! So here it is. I currently own a Bushy M4A3 type carbine. I would like to buy another AR but I'm not into tuning a gun which I feel should be "out of the box" reliable (which the bushy was not). So, in all of your opinions, which AR is the best "out-of-the-box", factory buy? |

I have 2 Bushmasters which have plenty of rounds through both, not one failure. How is your bushmaster not reliable?did you purchase new? I also have a BCM so I am not partial to BM. Bushmaster makes a fine weapon right out of the box,M4 feed ramps on both my Bushmasters.(Had to mention this chart) Keith |

Now that I have about 500 rounds thru it (various ammo) it's running better. However, for the first couple hundred I might as well have had a bolt action: Bang - rack it, Bang - rack it, ect. (FTE) Took it back to the store and the owner put me in touch with Bushmaster. They said there's a 200 round break-in period. I'm thinking: "Uh, why isn't that info in the manual?" It took more like 400 and even thou it's a .223/5.56, the only .223 it would cycle regularly (somewhat) was Federal. So I was thinking about getting a lighter recoil spring for he .223 loads? My zero required that the front post be so far up it wobbles, feels like it's about to fall out and it could still stand to come up a couple clicks. I never had such an extreem sight setting on any issued M-4 or M-16? I'm not opposed to spending a few bucks to tune my Bushy up but I would still like another one. So I'm just looking ya'lls collective, and better informed, opinion on out of the box quality AR's. This will be one of my very rare informed and planned gun buys. |

I have owned guns from RRA, Armalite, Bushmaster, DSA, DPMS, LMT, BCM, Stag, and Spikes.
All have ran 100% out of the box. Maybe I'm just lucky. Any problems your Bushy is having should be very easy to iron out. I would send it back to Bushmaster. If you are going to buy a new one, these days I firmly believe in the "buy once cry once" philosophy. Go "top tier" (Colt, BCM, LMT, etc) and never look back |

My opinion (take with grain of salt)
Best "out of the box reliability rifle" would probably be a Colt. The 6920 is a popular choice. They're known for reliability out of the box, plain and simple. Finish quality and accuracy could be described as military though, if that matters for your application. If you want to step up a notch in finish quality and accuracy while maintaining "out of the box" good-to-go'ness, and you would want to look at a Noveske. Prices are a little higher, but when you price the accessories that come with thier higher-end packages, they're actually a pretty good bargain (shop around the site sponsors BTW) BCM isn't a bad choice either. I'm very happy with mine. Tex78 |
