I am in the process of building a 16 inch carbine for my 13 year old and need advice on an inexpensive rail.Possible budget choices are Troy 2 Piece,MI 2 Piece,a Used KAC RAS.Opinions from users of these would be appreciated. Thanks

I've got the MI 2 piece non-free float. I'm very happy with it. It does what it's supposed to do. I've no experience with the others.

If price is a big factor for you then you could check out the UTG quad rail.  I know, i know its UTG.  But for 60-70 bucks it really is a sturdy rail platform.  They are quite heavy though.

The Surefire M73 is another option.

I'm very happy with my 2-piece Double Star non FF. It's slim and light, 7.2 oz. $125 + shipping @ Midway.

I have been running the Surefire M73 on a few rifles. Very happy with it. You can find good used ones on EE for around $110......

I just put a 2 piece MI rail on a mid length, seems very solid. Even a bit more solid feeling than the Surefire. Picked it up new for $145......

I have tried twisting/pulling on the rails, using a Larue FUG; both seem to be good to go :)
