I'm looking to get a rail system for my RRA midlength carbine.

My needs/wants are:

Free float
No wobble-needs to be solid
Continous rail on the top (This leaves out Larue and the regular Daniel Defense.)
Lightweight
Under $300 (This leaves out KAC and Daniel Defense Lite)

Question: Do the 2-piece FF systems from MI and Troy lock up nice and tight? Do you have to keep the handgaurd cap with these systems?

Please help. I am open to any suggestions.

Thanks.

Go with the Troy, I've got 3. They all lock up tight. Don't need the handguard cap.

MIs do lock up

i'd opt for em; h/w, the troys are nice also, and if you can afford it, get em

Just installed a LRT 12" on an RRA 18" middy.  Very nice but doesn't meet your particulars.

Yes.

Do you have to keep the handgaurd cap with these systems?

No.  Left mine off.  I've seen some leave them on.  You do have to install the front bracket, but it is internal and under the guards.

Samson
Troy
MI

I've got Samsons mid and rifle models they're very solid, the lower half fits very snug with the upper half.

I prefer the front handguard cap off for slightly better cooling.

The Troy looks like it might come the closest to meeting my specs. Anyone know how much they weigh?

Troy MRF-MX (Mid Length) 17.5 oz installed

FYI the Samson mid weight: 13.5 oz per Samson's website.

The MI is heavier than Troy.
