I'm thinking of ordering Brownell's upper receiver block,  a bench block (or go cheap with 2x4s), and a multi-tool and installing the Larue 7.0 rail myself.  Either that, or have my  local shop do the install for $60.  I haven't yet decided.  I have watched the video on Larue's website.  I have also read through the "Build It Yourself" thread on installing FF rails.  But, I still have one question.

When finally placing the front sight block back on, will it line itself back up for the most part.  Or, do I just have to eyeball it before driving the pins back in?  I don't want to end up with a front sight block that I cannot get back on dead center.  Thanks for any help.

Its good to learn how to do this type of stuff yourself.

Anyways you want to look through the holes, and try to get the FSB aligned with the cuts in the barrel as close as possible. Tap the pins partially back into place, and make sure its straight. Tap pins all the way into place, and check alignment again. If the FSB was put on correctly at the factory it should line back up again just how it was. The holes through the FSB should have been cut while on the barrel so each FSB is mated to the barrel its on. The pins wont go in correctly if the FSB and barrel holes/cuts are not lined up.

ETA: I actually just use some soft pine board I cut as an upper receiver block, and you can cover the wood with some felt or other soft material as well. Clamp everything together in a vice, and it works just as well as a set of upper receiver blocks. I took apart two uppers this past weekend, and it worked just fine. Put the uppers in the freezer for about 30 minutes, and both barrel nuts came off without much fuss.

Thanks a lot man.  That is exactly what I was wondering.  Much appreciated.

The front sight base will align itself when you install the taper pins except it's not as easy like in the video.

I installed my LaRue 9.0 myself and the hardest part for me was installing the front sight pins, I used a front sight cradle tool (which you could buy from ADCO, Brownells or others) and I had to hit the pins very hard, also there's a special punch for the taper pins to prevent damaging them.

I got an upper action block with an extra center core piece, the center core which goes in the same place as the BCG prevents the upper from canning (the walls of the upper bending), some experienced builders was saying in the build it yourself forum that it's possible to bend the walls of the upper when installing the barrel.

For installing the LaRue barrel nut I used a standard handguard installation tool with three pins that goes into the holes of the barrel nut, I also used my detachable carry handle rear sight to align the top rails before I tightened down the rail mounting ring with a strap wrench.

If you could do basic mechanical work on your car installing the LaRue rail is easy, except those taper pins of the FSB have to be pounded real hard, at least once you did it once you could do it again and again.

I use a 3" long taper pin to get the FSB all lined up in one hole and then insert the standard pin in the other hole and tap it in.
