Quick and dirty –– if the choice is between a KAC M4 RAS (non free float) and a Daniel Defense 7.0" Omega rail, which do you pick?  This will be installed on a 16" barrel, carbine gas length.

These two are my choices for ease of installation and similar price point, but I could probably be persuaded to look at another manufacturer as well.  Just keep in mind I'm looking for something I can install myself.  I currently have the DD Omega on another rifle and love the way it locks up solidly, but I'm not a huge fan of the diameter and dimensions of the profile.  It's not hideous, and I favor functionality over appearance, but I wouldn't mind going with the KAC just to see how they compare.

Your thoughts?

A used KAC RAS will only be $50 cheaper than a new Omega.

The KAC RAS is great (I had one), but I would prefer the slimmer profile of the Omega / DD units.

If you don't like the profile of the Omega, it can't hurt to try the M4 RAS. You probably won't lose any money if you decide to resell it.

I tried an Omega... didn't like it... then tried one again on another gun.  Still didn't like it.  The lower rail seems too low.  With rail covers the whole thing just feels too big for me.  I like LT or KAC for a drop in.
