I just picked up a rifle with a DPMS Sweet 16 upper.   My question:  Is there a free float handguard / rail system I can use that'll slide over the existing gas block?   Or do I have to swap out the block for a low profile one like a Noveske?

Thanks.

I believe the Free float forearm from Midwest Industries will work for what you want. Not 100% sure though. i have not dealt with any ar's with a free float forearm already on them. the ones from MI come as a 2 piece so no need to remove the gas block.

I have the MI carbine length free floating rail system on mine.

Most FF rail come in 2 pieces.  If you get the carbine length you don't need to mess with the gas block.  I originally wanted to 10" rail from MI but had to get a low profile gas block.  I wasn't comfortable messing with that gas system so I saved a few bucks and got the carbine length.

Actually. . .I don't think I worded my question correctly.

What I meant was:  I want a gas block that will fit under a given rail system.  That way, I can run a longer forend for bag/pack work and accessory usage.

Of course. . .I may have to run a shorter rail system rather than monkey with a snug fitting gas block.

AR:

Yep. . .that was my suspicion.  I may have to be content with a short rail system.  I was just curious if someone could confirm/deny this.

Thanks.

This is what I'm looking at.  I'd like to bring another six or so inches worth of forend over the gas block.

If your gas block will work on a bushmaster and the milled gas block on my bushmaster will fit on a dpms i would be more than happy to trade with you.
