Hey guys,
Just registered for this site after using this as my #1 place for reference in regards to my AR. But down to business, I have a 20" upper on my current set up with a flat top receiver. I have a soft spot in my heart for M16A4's, so naturally I want to get a rail system to replace the hand guards. I'd like some input on what company makes a good fore end in the long, 20" variant. I'm not looking to go kick down doors in the sand box with the thing, but I still don't want to waste my money. I had a UTG for my carbine and I never had a problem with it. On the other end of the spectrum, I'm considering getting a KAC rail system, but the 300+ dollar price tag is kind of deterring me. Basically if you guys could point me in the direction of a decently priced, sturdy rail system, I would be most appreciated. Sorry if this has been beaten to death in previous threads. Regards, SomethingFierce |

This would not necessarily be my first choice given an unlimited budget; however, given the budget you set, this is an outstanding choice.

Preferably I'd like a quad rail. My budget id say would be 170 or so at highest for this particular piece of the puzzle. Also does free floating make a big difference? I know for long range bolt guns it does, but for an AR is it that important? If the rest of the gun is halfway decent, and you run good ammo, and you're a good trigger puller, yes, free floating makes a difference. If you shoot using a sling, it's practically a must. If you're a dirt shooter running Wolf through a barrel with 20k through it that you've never cleaned, then no, free floating probably won't help. Check the EE for some used pieces. KAC makes very good stuff. YHM is the cheapest I'd go for new stuff, they make models in your price range. Otherwise, Troy, Daniel Defense, Samson, and LaRue all make good stuff, but you may not find some of them used in your price range. If you change your mind on the quad rails, look at Troy TRX Extreme and the Midwest Industries SS-Series. If you don't have the tools/means to install it yourself, be sure to set some $$$ aside for a gunsmith or for a case of beer for an Arfcommer to install it (ask in your HTF for help). |
