Just a quick question.....I have noticed that rails for flattops come in all shapes and sizes, and I have also noticed in a wide price range....now, I know that my Dad used to tell me that "you get what you pay for"...however, I have noticed, that when looking a diagrams, pictures and specs of some of the rails, they appear to be the same.  I have noticed that Leapers products are really cheap (comparatively) and look the same as products costing 5X more.  Do any of you have experiences of comparing these products?...Your recommendations?..Your thoughts?

Thanks!

There is definately a difference even if they look the same.  The number one difference is QUALITY, cheaper stuff has less sturdy materials and are somewhat lacking in quality.

Another difference is the type of rail, a free float is more than a 2-Piece drop in, and an extended rail is more expensive than standard length.

If you are looking for a recommendation for a good rail.  I purchased a Yankee Hills Machine (YHM) 2 piece rail for my carbine for about $100 on the sites EE from BrightFlashlights.

Its a quality drop in piece that isn't cheap but isnt restrictively expensive.  And its an extremely good quality manufacturer.

The big question is, what do you plan on doing with it?

Mine all have YHM quad rail hand guards. They seem like they would pound nails.

Are you asking about an optics rail?

Yes, I was asking about an optics rail...sorry that I didn't specify.  I looked at the leapers rail (see thru) and it seems to be made the same as those costing much more.  A friend has one, and it appears to be well made, either of aluminum or some light metal....not "plastic" as some advertise.....and is only $12.99....what do you think?  The only thing different is that the finish appears to be of a dull "phosphate" type, and not the shiny smooth anodized aluminum.   Thanks!

The difference in inexpensive parts usually has to do with the overall precision of the manufacture and the material it's made out of.  Some are serviceable, some aren't.

Do you have a link to the one you're looking at?  That would help with comparisons.

As a general rule, Leapers is not synonymous with quality.
