Finally got to the range today with my new wulf.... the anticipation was killing me....!!
Weather conditions could not have been more perfect... clear blue sky with a slight right to left cross wind..... temperature 53 degrees....
I first set up on the 50 yard line to bore site and run a few rounds just to get the feel of the gun and see how the recoil would affect me... I have to say that the recoil really was not an issue, most likely due to the fact that I installed a Limbsaver on the stock already, although I will admit that I did jerk the trigger on the first couple of rounds in anticipation of the recoil that I have heard so much about.... I would compare the recoil of the Beowulf to be similar to that of a 300 win mag... I was shooting 325 grain hollow points, which I'm sure do not have the same recoil of the heavier bullets...
after sending 3 rounds down range at the 50 yard mark I moved the target stand to the 100 yard line and posted a new target... shooting off of my gear bag, which is what I prefer to use, rather than a gun vise type of rest.... as you can see from the target, my first 6 rounds were kind of all over the place... I attribute that partly to the wind, my lack of breathing control and my "over-adjustment" of the scope... twice..!! when I finally talked myself down from the adrenaline rush that I was feeling, (I love shooting this rifle), I made a serious effort to control my breathing and my next 5 rounds were exactly what I was looking for...
I only fired a total of 20 rounds today as I only have 2 boxes of ammo, and I wanted to conserve the 2nd box so I can finish the hunting season with it.... all 20 rounds cycled perfectly with no FTF or FTE, the rifle performed flawlessly...
there were only 3 other peeps at the range today, and they were very interested in my pea shooter... none of them had seen nor heard of the Beowulf, but after seeing it perform, they all remarked on how it impressed them also.... they were quite in awe of the size of the hole in the muzzle and how fat the brass is.... I offered, but no one wanted to shoot it...
2" at 100 yards.... not bad for a gun that shoots a bullet as big as a bumble bee...
