Hello, I am trying to ID my AR model number. I have been unable to do so to date. I have scoured the Biggerhammer.net site but wound up more confused than before I began. Any help will be appreciated, here is what I have:

The lower is an A1 lower marked:
AR-15 A2
Cal .223
Sporter II
Ser. SP 340XXX

It has a collapsible stock and the pistol grip has a finger groove.

The upper appears to be an A1 configuration with the old style sights, a forward assist, a 16" "thin" barrel, shorty hand guards, and an A2 flash hider. It does have a case deflector as well. The barrel is marked C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7.

I thought it was perhaps a 6520, but the sights are wrong. I thought perhaps a 6420, but it has a case deflector.

Any help will be appreciated.

could be a 6520 rifle with a model 723 upper.Colt is famous for using what ever is on hand to get a rifle built and out the door.Is the upper colt marked and is the lock ring of the telestock staked on if not it could be something rebuilt with colt parts.Call colt with the serial# they should know for sure.

The upper is marked C M below the carry handle and the tele stock is staked.

Thanks for the advice to call Colt.

You've got a 6520...I have one exactly like it. Not rare...but in my opinion, one of the best AR carbines...cos its very light to tote in the woods!

It's a Colt model 6420 made from 1986-1989+/-. The first models had A1 uppers without the case deflector. The last of them came with the C7/ case deflector uppers.

The first 50 or so came with Sp1 slick side uppers and Aluminum stocks. Looked just like the Sp1 carbine with an A2 pistol grip and 1/7 pencil bbl.
