So I made a 652 clone with that first EA lower I had cut to "A1" specs. But when I went to shoot it, the Bushy LW 16" didn't zero like I wanted.

I had to crank the rear sight all the way to the left, and that gives me a case of the @ss.

So I decided to switch upper receivers with another I had. But that one wouldn't close on the EA lower. The cut in the lower wasn't hollowed out enough to allow the new upper to close without trimming a bunch.

So I took all the lower parts off the EA and put them on NDS-16A1 #1. Color match was good, and the fit was sweet.

I've always had a hard-on for the 652 ever since I first checked "Small Arms Of The World" out of my high school library. Sorry about the crappy lighting, I usually take pics outside.

NDS-16A1 lower
Bushy LW 16" barrel w/handguard
surplus 604 upper
flat slip ring from Sherluk
stock and grip from Sarco
DPMS bolt/LPK

Also, I run an A2 front post and rear sight aperature on my carbines, it works better with my eyes.

Sweet build!

That sure turned out nice.  Is that one of 604s that's listed on your website?

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

Thats funny, I don't care who you are.

Thanks for all the positive comments.

I'm going to shoot it this weekend and see if switching uppers helped. The darn thing zeroed fine when I had a GI 20" barrel on this upper.

It's a good thing AR's are like legos..................

Your 652 is very nice! I have built up several of these over the years, but my Small Arms of The World 12th Edition [1983], pg 745, calls it an "M655". I've always referred to it as that, but at Retroblackrifle.com, it is called an M651...

I suppose there are endless variations with different designations...

I'll just call it a USAF carbine...

The one in the picture, and the one Mike built are both 652 clones. The 651 has a forward assist, but is otherwise the same. The Model 655 is the sniper rifle (heavy barrel)

So it's a mistake in Small Arms of The World???    (I'm sure there are many)...

A pity...I've quoted SAOTW many times; now to find out it's inaccurate...It's like finding out there's no Santa Claus...

So...The 651 has the FA; the 652 does not...I'll have to mark that down...Thanks!!!

Another 652 fan checking in.  I KNOW the 3prong hider should be a birdcage, but all MY 1/12's have the 3prong hider to set them apart from the faster twists on hand.  Base weapon is my '82 Colt CAR, no more beard hair pulling stock for this guy!

I know this isn't the place for "modern" AR's...but since Mike started the thread with the SAOTW connection, this is what that M651/2/5/whatever picture in my SAOTW started me off on...

DPMS 16 inch flattop HBAR w/BUIS F&R; 3-9x Tasco w/QD mount; spare A2 upper for brush work.

IMHO, about as close to a perfect AR-15 as I can get...

Well, it's the Bushy barrel. She still shoots a little (6") to the right when the peep is centered. So the rear sight still has to be adjusted way left to get a zero.

I can detect a little cant to the left on the FSB upon closer examination.

Its a minor irritation because this barrel shoots 3 round cloverleafs all day at 50 yards w/iron sights.
