I am still trying to decide what to do with one of my uppers, but i'm thinking of turning it into a recce build. It's a bcm 16" ss410 upper with the larue 12" rail. What optic would be a good choice? I'm thinking a 1-4x. Don't want an acog and it can't be too expensive. Is there anything out there in the 5-600 dollar range that will be durable? I don't want something that can't stand up to abuse. Don't want anything to cheap either. Locking turrets is a plus. Rifle will only be used to 200 yards max. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

How much abuse are we talking about? Generally, fixed power optics are more durable than variables. Why no ACOG? His price ceiling is $600 Used ACOGs are at or near that. Ex. 1 Ex. 2 Ex. 3 I'd trust most ACOGs over most 1-4x variables in terms of durability. That's not to say 1-4x scopes are delicate, but I realize some people are rough on their equipment for various reasons, some of which are outside of their control. But if he's tried them and hates ACOGs, or if the owner of Trijicon kicked his dog, that's fine too. I just inquired about the reason since occasionally some folks might form an opinion based on erroneous information. |

His price ceiling is $600 mainly due to price but also i'd like something that will be easy to use up close and could be used at distance if needed. i guess i could try the acog if i find one used and just trade it if i dont like it. right now i'm just getting ideas for the future. it'll be after the first of the year before i even get serious about it so i'm just looking for options right now. ETA: as for abuse i'll be using it as a hog hunting gun and general outdoors stuff in some rocky areas. i may not abuse it as much as some but i want something that if i drop the rifle and it lands on the optic i wont have to worry. |

Ive read lots of good things about the TR24. It's a bit more than your budget, but Primary Arms has a good price on them coupled with an ADM mount.
Im kind of in the same position looking for an optic. There are quite a few ~$300 1-4x scopes on the market that Ive read are pretty good for the money. |
| personally I think an acog would work just fine , but they are not for everybody . weaver has a 30 mm tube euro version 1.5x6 with the german number 4 reticule that has an illuminated dot that looks like it would fill the bill. If the glass on the trijicon 1x4 or the 1.25x4 is as good as the glass on my acog then it would be hard to beat. for your purpose. |
| Cactus Tactical has IOR Valdada 3X25 compact scopes for $624.99. I bought one this summer. Great glass decent recticle and tough as nails. For me it is fast at close range. So much so I doubt I need a 1-4. The mount that comes with it sucks I replaced it with a LaRue. |

If set against an ACOG I'd go TR24-G, but if you will consider an ACOG I'd go for it. Using the BAC my TA11J-G seems to work very well up close.
I sold my Aimpoint after getting the TA11 and got a TA44SG-10 to replace it. Contact Marshall at Primary Arms. He has excellent pricing. |
