Here's the issue.  Just put an AR lower together (RRA lower and VLTOR carbine receiver extension) and the receiver extension has an up and down play in it.  The receiver end plate is a Magpul ASAP which isn't sitting fush, however even without the receiver end plate the VLTOR extension has the up and down play.

I'm leaning towards the issue being with the receiver extension as I tried a rifle length extension on the lower and there is no play.  Question for the hive is if there have been issues with VLTOR extensions (I've got one on another RRA lower and no issues) or if there is a somewhat easy fix for this? (locktite?)

Thanks much.

It does this with the castle nut tightened securely against the plate?

Yes.  However, its with the castle nut secured against the  Magpul ASAP.  I don't have my full parts bin with me here so I can't try a regular end plate to see if that cures the issue...

Does the end of the tube have a laser engraved emblem?

got pics?
i'm having trouble figuring out why you would have any play if the castle nut is tight against the plate and the plate is tight against the receiver.

Did you insert the little indexing tab that aligns your tube, that came with the ASAP?  Is your buffer tube properly covering/securing the buffer retainer?

Are the laser engraved tubes different than other mil-spec tubes?

it just confirms that it is a real VLTOR product and not a copy
it should have VLTOR's logo etched on the end if it's a real one.

Yes, it is a VLTOR tube.  I got it from brownells and it's laser engraved.

The ASAP was installed with the indexing pin as well.

The ASAP would not sit flat against the back of the receiver, not sure whats going on with that, however the VLTOR receiver extension still has an up and down wiggle that rifle extension I tried does not.

I'm starting to think that the VLTOR receiver extension is the issue.

I had a very similiar experience on a recent build...RRA lower receiver, MagPul ASAP and VLTOR tube.  Mine would not sit flat either so I held it in place against the receiver and turned the VLTOR tube into the receiver.  It was a very tight fit but it went in.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.  Just been kinda frustrated with this build.

The laser engraved ones were acquired by Vltor due to a shortage of their normal tubes.

The "embossed" ones are the "normal" Vltor tubes.

Wait, so its a pseudo-VLTOR tube?  Hrmph.  Less than pleased...

I'd be less than pleased if I paid for a 7075 tube and got a 6061 tube also.

Are you implying that there could be or is a difference in the material of construction?

Well, it was the receiver...  I've since tried two different receivers on that VLTOR tube and the tube works well on both of those, which is surprising as all three receivers are RRAs.  The offender was in the 120K serial range, but the other two in the 86K range work fine...  Not sure on what happened with the receiver, but I appreciate everyone's input.
