I'm currently working on a build. The stripped receiver that was shipped to me looks like it was dipped in oil before shipment. I guess the question I'm asking is whether I should wipe down the receiver clean of oil before I begin assembling?

The oil is simply there to keep it from rusting if it is going to be sitting for a while. I would probably wipe it off before assembling, then lube all necessary parts after.

That's what I figured, I'll just degrease the inside of the receiver, wipe it down with a gun cloth, install parts and lube where necessary.

I'm assuming the threads on the lower for the receiver extension doesn't need any lube also, correct?

Sorry, corrode (if any of the bare aluminum is exposed from something like a scratch)

Wouldn't hurt to put a small amount of lube on it but I don't believe it is necessary.

The oil is there as a preservative. I usually degrease with automotive brake cleaner, then apply a very light coat of CLP with a paint brush and wipe down with a black t-shirt.

Greasing the threads of the lower receiver is recommended IAW the -23. This will prevent galling of the threads. This is also a topic that gets covered a lot. I suggest you read through the forum and do a search on grease.

I ordered some Aeroshell Grease 33MS, I believe this is what I need, correct? Would it be wise to grease the pistol grip screw as well?

Since you do not know what kind of oil it is , I would dunk it in solvent , let it dry ( or use compressed air to blow the solvent off the metal ) .

I am going to start a build in a few days , thinking about dunking upper & lower & small parts in tranny fluid & then letting it drain on paper towels or rags ?

Then use CLP on it when it is finished .

God bless

Stinky, messy, and not necessary. See my post up above.
