The site search engine yielded no hits, so I'll just ask. I'm going to a gun show this weekend. I expect there will be a lot of AR parts, and I need a BCG for an A2 build. Trouble is, I'm only marginally familiar with the AR system, and don't want to buy QA rejects. Any good way to separate the wheat from the tares? ADVthanxANCE, |

I rarely find good deals at gun shows. Most things at gun shows can be found online for the same price if not less (including shipping). You can easily get screwed at gun shows, but you can always return parts from vendors. If a part is out of spec ... good luck returning it when you buy at a gun show. Most vendors handle returns very well and if they don't you can always do a chargeback due to a fraudulent sale (item not as advertized) when you pay with a credit card.
My point is ... if you shop at a gun show you better know exactly what you're looking at because most of the time you don't have the opportunity to return it in my experience. |

Thanks, Randy, I know what you mean. In years past, I've had some very good luck buying Mil-Surp parts at gun shows; but out of several 1911 slides I'd acquired as "blems", one turned out to be a massive QA reject that I didn't catch (the firing pin hole was drilled - very neatly - 0.2" lower than spec.) I may well end up just looking for some of the other small parts I need, including for other builds I'm working on (M1A, m1911); albeit, the supply of genuine GI parts is probably nearly exhausted now. Given the de-mil policies of the gu'mnt, is there even any such thing as a genuine GI BCG on the private market? Again, thanks for the observation. Dale |
