I am currently looking for ways to possibly reduce the recoil on my AR-15, and before anyone says it yes I know 5.56 has very little recoil but I simply wish to see if I can shave it down even more. My AR is already fairly light in terms of recoil compared to those owned by my brother and father which I somewhat account to the fact that mine is roughly 9lb unloaded with nothing but iron sights and the fact that mine is the only one running an adjustable gas block. My build consists of:
  • Aero Precision Lower
  • SAA Upper
  • Magpul UBR
  • Seekins Precision 15" SP3R
  • Rainier Match NiB BCG
  • SLR Sentry 7 Adjustable Gas Block
  • Black Hole Weaponry 16" Mid Length Gas
  • H Carbine Buffer
  • Smith Enterprise G6-A3

Maybe an Vg6 EPSILON or Gamma comp. Limbsaver makes a buttpad for Magpul stocks. You already have adjustable gas, turn it down to bare minimum at the range ( but open some extra clicks for HD).
Lastly there is a buffer made by CTS Engineering called the Aktive buffer. It has some elastomeric piston ( not hydraulic) that may help a little.

Brakes, and suppressors reduce recoil.
Reduced loads, adj gas, and lighter recoiling mass can reduce recoil.
Changing the action spring and recoiling mass can change your perception of the recoil.

Your options are:

A. A better comp - this will be the fastest, easiest and most effective item.  An effective budget comp is the DPMS miculek compensator.

B. LW BCG and buffer system.  I use Rhino Arms,  boomfab and JP both have excellent low mass carriers.

These are the things I have done to get a super light recoiling AR:

Voodoo low mass carrier
Adjustable gas block
Silenceroco trifecta muzzle brake
Removed weights from buffer (now weighs 1oz)
SpringCo white CS spring
Mid length 14.5
Shoot .223

Many will say that the buffer weights are needed to push the bcg closed. But the Chrome Silicone spring has no twang, and reduces bounce back. So it works fine with no out of battery problems.

One other thing to do would be get a 16" rifle length gas system. I wish they made a 14.5 rifle length. One company has done it before. But none are for sale as just the barrel.

This rifle recoils so light. And it's extremely reliable.

This may help

Also add a bayonet

No, no, no....

Not a light carrier

A Tubb carrier weight assembly. ( David Tubb SSS)
"superior shooting systems"

High power shooters have been using that for years to improve the recovery in rapidfire
NRA High power shooting.

Go to a shooting sight such as " National Match . Com"

.
It will make your cone of dispersion smaller.

a muzzle brake is the easiest and loudest way to reduce recoil.  If you get a good one its far more effective than adjustable gas.

Leave the buffer alone.  Even with adj gas, -2oz in the BCG wont make a very noticeable difference. BTDT.

Carrier weight cannot use an adjustable gas block.
Reduced the slam-bang of cycling.
I've been useing several for years.
