I'm not new to firearms; I'm 55 and it seems I've been hunting and shooting every spare minute for 45 of those years.  I am late coming to the table to learn about and shoot the fantastic AR platform.  I'm building my daughter an AR-15 in 5.56.  I bought an LWRC R.E.P.R. last year and she loves to shoot it.  I bought her a Glock for her birthday and she is a very competent markswoman.  She's only 20, and I started her out when she was 4.  She loves to hunt with me and he drags me to the range more often than I would normally go.  She's a father's dream child.

So, I'm building her an AR and I have one of many questions, though first, rest assured that a very good gunsmith who builds AR's is guiding me through this build.  In fact, when I get all the parts together, we're going to get her to build it.

The part I'm looking for is a recoil spring/buffer that is as quiet as one can be made.  I'm not sparing expense on this so I don't mind high-end components.

Thanks ahead of time for your help.

David Tubb flat wire springs are supposed to be more quiet than a conventional spring.

I'm personally a fan of the Vltor A5 system. I care more about gas in my face and reliability than I do a bit of noise, although the A5 isn't exactly "noisy".

Fist post nails it.   I use a Jp tuned extra power spring and a spikes st-t2 buffer.  Very quiet and less than the silent all in one Jp makes.

A little grease on a standard spring will quiet it down quite a bit.

Very nice springs. They last for more shooting than you'll probably do your entire life.

Those 100 dollar springs aren't doing all that much to make it worth the price.

Damage Industries also makes some very nice chrome silicon springs which are quieter than standard wire springs, and will last for the life of the average AR...and won't cost too much.

^^THIS^^ I've been running these with the Spikes T-2 in all my AR's, the spoing noise is gone and you can pick them up when they have a sale for $7.

I'm not sure if it will be quiet or not cause I don't really care but if you want a very soft shooting rifle this is what I have in all of my ARs:

Rifle (18"/20+" barrel) - Sprinco "green" buffer spring + Colt H2 buffer (collapsible stock) or Colt rifle buffer (A1/A2 stock)

Carbine/SBR (16" and bellow barrel) - Sprinco "blue" buffer spring + Colt H2 or H3 buffer

I'm looking to create a soft recoil carbine for my oldest daughter.  Thanks for asking the question (and the replies)

I've switched 4 of mine over to damage inc springs now 3 10.5" sbr's ......1 16" carbine
Spikes st 2 buffers

They really quite the sproing noise
No function issues.

If they last the 750,000 cycles i shouldnt ever need springs again.

Tubb flat wire spring wiped down with a little Fireclean and a Spikes T2 tungsten powder buffer is a great and very quiet set up.

This. And pick the heaviest buffer the rifle will reliably lock back on empty with, using the lowest powered ammo she will regularly use.

Yup, got the same T2 buffers & Damage springs running in my 16" middies, though  my 14.5" middy runs better with just the standard carbine buffer. I think the reduced dwell time might cause some reliability issues with a heavier buffer.

Yep no noise at all. Pair that with a low mass carrier and an adjustable gas block and you have a pretty smooth soft shooting ar.

Thank you all very much for the replies!  I imagine I'll go for the JP all-in-one...maybe...
