I just ordered a Spike's 18" SPR upper the other day and I need a scope to go on it. I really don't know that much about scopes so let me know what I need to have. Also, I'm not rich by any means so just leave out the really expensive ones!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Personally, I like the Burris Xtreme with the Fastfire attached...
http://www.burrisoptics.com/xtrtactical1.html A true 1 power scope that I can sight in at 150-200 yards and sight the reflex in at 50. Little bit of both worlds there |

I'd like to be able to consistently hit center mass at ranges up to 500 yds. If you want to be shooting at targets 500 yards and more, you could use a scope from this Company http://www.schmidtbender.com/ Those really are high dollar, $1700 and up into 2K and 3 K range, |

My choice would be a 1x4. |
| There are a lot of very good scopes for $450.00 or less. Burris 30mm Euro Diamond scopes, Leupold 30mm European scopes 1X5's and 2X7's and their 30mm 1X5 VX3. If you shop around you can get these 1X5 scopes for $350.00 +/- and the 2X7's for under $400.00. The reticles include German #4 and the standard duplex. |

So I just thought maybe a Schmid Bender scope would be a good choice.

I recently put a Burris Signature Select scope on my 20" RRA. I went with the 4X-16X - 44mm with their ballistic plex reticle and have been shooting it out to 565 yds with no problems. I have checked out the targets at the 1000 yd range and can see them clearly but have not yet tried my hand firing at that distance. If you are only going to 500 yds you could get away with their 3X-12X - 44mm. I spent right at $500 delivered for this scope and could not be happier with it. Did Spikes give you an idea of how long it will take for delivery on the 18" upper? I have been looking for an 18" barrel with the intent of building and upper and may just go with them since they are close by. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p126/Maalox_bucket/RRA%2020/IMG_2376.jpg http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p126/Maalox_bucket/RRA%2020/IMG_2378.jpg Spike's has run out of 18" barrels, they said it would be around the 1st of the year. |

Thanks, There is a gun show Jan 9&10 they usually attend. I will talk to them about purchasing one. |
| Either a Nikon Monarch or a Leopold Mark AR should work nicely. Both are Dont have a Mark AR but have 3 other Leopolds and 2 Nikons. The Leopolds i have are all a couple to 10 years old so i dropped some pretty decent change for them. Never have regretted it. I learned the importance of quality scopes and mounts the hard way in the feild with my dick in my hand. One of the biggest bucks in TX i missed a shot at was because the cheap Simmons scope i had failed. when i put it up it was fogged internally and i was unable to take the 100 yard or so shot. After that i bought a 3-9x40 Leopold. I know the nikon Monarchs work well in heat and cold also. I have taken 2 different bucks in MN with mine in 10 degree or colder weather. i have also become a huge fan of the Larue Tactical mounts. Ring and mount together with a quick release second to none. I can take mine off my Winchester mod 70 custom and use the irons in about 10 seconds or less. |

Falcon Menace 4-14x44 will do the trick nicely for around $400. Yes, IF you could find one. Glad I got mine when I did. Millet TRS might be another viable option. +1 on the Millet if he's looking for affordability. but there was a decent deal on a Leupold a while back. timing is everything for parts. when deals come up, you can't second guess, just jump on it and deal with it later. i didn't bite on the Armalite upper deals, and i'm kicking myself. |
