| .....that will fit inside the FF HG of an MGI upper. Looking for lowest weight highest reliability. Is steel better than aluminum for durability/reliability? (obviously heavier) |
Nothing like launching brand new disk after brand new disk all because you torqued it 2 degrees the wrong way... |
Of those 4, the first three are roughly the same weight (around 1.2oz) and the LaRue is at or just over 2oz (IIRC). Of those 4, only the LaRue will cover the entire gas block area (if your barrel was drilled for a FSB) All are steel, all are low profile, all are excellent choices. |
Excellent info. What won't the others cover. If It's not under a handrail how will it look. What will I see? |
When you remove the standard FSB, there will be 2 holes that are drilled thru the barrel where the taper pins went thru. The PRI, Noveske and Vltor gas blocks, once installed, will only cover up one of the taper pin holes. Some folks dont care for that, me included. Is it Ok to run it that way, sure it is. The Larue GB on the other hand, is made longer, so that it covers up both taper pin holes, this does look better. They are all very well made by the best companies in the industry. Just pick one that fits your criteria. |
Also, if your barrel is made by one of the many companies who parkerize AFTER FSB installation, you will have two bare metal spots that could rust. (Unless your barrel is stainless) |
IIRC, the LaRue Tactical gas block measures 3.9 ozs. |
LaRue 0.625" is 3.9oz LaRue 0.750" is 2.8oz I have been adding component weights to my parts page as I get around to weighing them... IIRC, the LaRue Tactical gas block measures 3.9 ozs. |
MI 0.750" is 3.5oz, which is 0.4oz lighter than a LaRue 0.625" gas block, but also 0.7oz heavier than a LaRue 0.750" block. Not enough to really worry about when you consider that the MI block also covers the pin cuts and lack of parkerizing for $25 les than the LaRue. |
