Here is what I am looking for:
- Low power variable scope that must start at 1X - Illuminated reticle approprriate for CQB with mil dot hash marks for longer range shooting - As much magnification as possible 6x or more - Reticle still functional if batteries die - At least 3" of eye relief Cost is not an issue. This will be going onto a Larue 16" OBR. I want to be able to use this with ease anywhere from 25 yards out to 600 yards. |
| I am looking into the same type of scope. Have been checking out the Trijicon AccuPoint 1.25-4x24, Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5x20mm Mid Range Tactical and Burris 1x-4x-24mm XTR Xtreme Illuminated Tactical. The alternative lower cost scopes would be the Primary Arms 1-4X 24 Illuminated Scope, and Millett 1-4 x 24 DMS. I think the Larue SPR-E is one of the preferred mounts for a flattop. |

I don't think you will find any scope that can go from 1x to 6x.... I've never seen one....
I would recommend a Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x24....this bad boy or schmidt & bender? here |

I don't think you will find any scope that can go from 1x to 6x.... I've never seen one.... Yes, there is one, and it's an excellent piece of glass. The 1x/CQB performance is outstanding for a variable scope of this type as well. Swarovski Z6, or the illuminated version is the Z6i, 1-6x. http://swfa.com/Swarovski-1-6x24-Z6i-30mm-Riflescope-P11128.aspx
The reticle needs to be better but Swaro hasn't seemed interested in offering a more "tactical" reticle... the company seems opposed to any kind of defensive, combative or LE use of their products. It could be an almost perfect optic for a versatile AR. I'm going to bug them yet again this year at the SHOT show for a better reticle, even if just something from their existing selection. |
| I use the Millet DMS-1 on several of my "fighting" rifles. It had a nice recticle and adjusts from 1 - 4 Power. Will not empty your wallet either! So far 2 deer, one boar and a 'yote" taken with one. Fast, yet allows you to adjust the power if your target is not moving. |

Some folks seem to like the Millett. I have one and I don't care for it. It's too heavy, and the optics are pretty poor. I do like the reticle, but that's about it. I couldn't talk about it's durability, though, as I haven't had it out much. Right now it's on a BCM 16" stainless that I intend to use for 3gun competition. Before I do any serious shooting with it, though, I plan to put a serious scope on it, like the Accupoint or Burris. I have an Accupoint 1.25 - 4 on another rifle that is a great optic.
For inexpensive glass I use the Weaver 1 - 3x. Only 3x at top end, but the optics are far and away better than the Millett. The op says price is no object? I'd start at the Burris and go up. The Meopta makes a very good glass, btw! |
If money is no object then THIS BAD BOY is what you want.
retail $2520

The newer Trijicon 1-4x variable (30mm tube) is also a pretty nice scope. The top high end scopes IMO are the Swarovski 1-6x and the now-seemingly-unavailable Kahles 1-4x. |
