Hey guys I just purchased the walther PS 22 red dot and I noticed when I turn the dot on there is a streak next to the dot that lights up the same color as the dot. I tried cleaning the lense but it is still there. Is this a defective red dot or is this normal?

Yet another inadvertent eye exam revealing an astigmatism per chance?
Perfect question above. If the streak remains in the same place as you rotate it it's your eye, not the optic. Very common to have a mild astigmatism and not have it impact your vision to the point that it bothers you. Lots see comets rather than dots. My oldish eyes fortunately yield a very faint "comet" trailing off the "dot" at two o'clock. Fortunately, the dot is still quite prominent. |

My distance prescription in my dominant eye is +.50 -.50. I can't recall the the axis of the cylindrical correction. A 3X mag does something that some like and others don't and that's uniformly magnify the red dot and the image. I'd bet that the magnification is highlighting a very small astigmatism. Probably smaller than a 1/4 diopter and if you couldn't notice the difference you couldn't tell your doctor you noticed a difference. |

Got off the phone with Aimpoint, thought I'd give them a call. Talked to Matt again (he's a good guy) and he said that it could be a lot of things. He said it's most likely not something wrong with my eyes since it was a recent exam. He suggested trying to look at it in different lighting conditions and also after messing with the magnifier centering screws a bit. He also said it might be something to do with magnifying the micro sight a bit since there is such a small distance for the LED to travel inside the smaller micro tube. I don't know a ton about the way optics work on a technical level so he lost me a bit at this point. |
| im going to have to put some input on this thread. I have a slight astigmatism but I dont notice it much with just my micro. Krylancelo, im in the same boat as you with the magnifier. The thing about it, I looked though the mag with my friends M2 and it was a very clean looking dot. My micro on the other hand shows a trail to the 10 oclock. If it was my eyes, then the M2 would produce the same results as the micro... Im thinking the micro and mag is a bad setup?? |

I also see the dot completely 100% perfectly round even on the lower settings that are barely visible (when it should show up most) but see it as a \ when viewed through a magnifier at certain angles. |
