A group of us are getting together soon to build AR15's on Stag lowers.  The lower receivers are supposed to arrive the first week of February.

I thought of a unique & creative way to build one but I just could stand waiting any longer.  I used the Mega lower I built last year & swapped parts I aquired this past December.  I built my own Red Ryder.

I stenciled the butt stock & painted it to match the anodized aluminum parts.

That logo is copied from a 1950's era paperback.

This rifle has a flat top upper receiver with a 20" fluted barrel.  Free float handguard, butt plate & charge handle are anodized aluminum.  I used a Masen one piece detactable scope mount with a Burris 3-9 40x with ballistic reticle marked for zero & 100yd increments out to 500yds.  This one will be my "wanderin' around" prairie dog rifle.

That butt stock is for an A1 & there by 5/8" shorter than a A2. The little bit of difference really does feel short so & will likely change it in the future.  I'll have to paint & stencil the new stock but I may take it to a friend who does professional sign letting.

Sight in & range report to follow.

damn, I thought the red handguard & matching paint was gawdy enough with a coordinated lower, it'd look like vegas show girl.  That'd be treadin' dangerous water, the gun snobs are gonna turn they're noses up as it is

BTW, damn nice machine work on that lower

I have the same Burris scope as you.  It has nice, short eye relief -- perhaps the shortest of scopes in its class.  Still, I needed to put mine in an Armalite cantilevered scope mount to get it forward enough.  Yours is quite well back from where mine sits.  Aren't you a little far back on the stock, or do you not mind?

That is an A1 stock & shorter than I prefer.  I placed the scope where I got a full field of view.  I expect when I change to an A2 stock I'll set it further toward the rear.

Very cool, Southhoof!

We have all seen a thousand AR's and I, for one, thought that creativity had reached its boundaries.........until now.

Congratulations on the new Red Ryder!
