I'm looking for some opinions or any first hand knowledge on this.

I've got a red dot site on my AR that I'm very happy with.  I've been considering buying a magnifier for it but I'm really looking for better than a 3x zoom.  I know there are other scopes on the market with the red dot built in, but like I said, I'm pretty happy with what I have plus I hate to spend $500+ for what's basically a "red dot upgrade".

My question is this:  I'm considering buying a scope to mount on the rails to get the better zoom that I'd like to have (5-10x).  My question is this:  Has anyone ever mounted a red dot ON TOP of a scope.  I've seen one in an ad recently, but can't find it again. My thought is that I could mount a short rail on top of the scope and mount the red dot I have to that.

Does anyone one have any experience with this kind of setup?

Thanks in advance.  I look forward to comments and/or criticisms.

it's done all the time, however not usually with a full sized aimpoint. There is also a more recent trend to off-set mount a back up sight. off set mounting keeps your secondary optic closer inline with your bore and on a separate mount from your primary. there are advantages and disadvantages to both.

I was just looking at an NcStar scope with the rails built onto the scope housing. The specs say its a 1-7 zoom and the eye relief looks good (3").

I've not heard of this company though.  The scope is under $75 so I have some doubts.  If anyone know anything about them, I'd sure welcome the input!

Last night I made a post asking for feedback on the NcStar line of scopes.  To say the feedback was negative is a real understatement!

Soooo, I won't be doing that.  However, they do make a line of scope mounts that come with a short rail and would attach to the barrel of a scope.  This would give me a way to put my current RDS on top.

Anyone have any thoughts on this??
