Against all recommendations and warnings, I am using my drill press as a milling machine to make small aluminum and delrin parts.

Right now I am just narrowing small pieces of aluminum no more than 1/2" thick and cutting a few slots in said aluminum.

What end mill should I use for 6061/7075 aluminum?

What size should I use to trim down a large surface area (1/2" wide) without having to make a gazillion passes?

Will the same end mill work ok on delrin?

What cutting oil should I be using and where can I get some?

Call me Primitive Pete. I also use screw drivers as chisels and vice grips as table clamps.

Aww screw em, do it anyway.

ETA: Make sure you roll video to post on youtube in the event it goes south. At least you'd have that to market or gain fame from.

i belive that someone makes a table/vise that adjust forward/back/left/right like a turret mills base for use on a drill press.if i were redneckin it i would chuck the bit as short as possible so it doesn't bend.check harbor freight.if you're removing material on the entire surface i would use the largest bit u can chuck.cutting fluid-wd40 if you're a real redneck, motor oil, 3 in 1 oil.anything to keep the bit lubed and cool. does your press have adjustable speed? hi/lo? if so i would mill on low and feed the material slow.

I have one of those two-way multi-use vices. Works great.
