I need to SBR a second AR, and my factory Colt 9mm is the intended target, since the upper is a suppressed 9mm upper.   My only concern is that later on if I  want to run a second 5.56 SBR, I'm locked into the 9mm.  Can the factory block be removed just by pushing out the three roll pins, and the lower be used as a 5.56 lower?  I know other parts are different, that's an easy fix.      The alternative is to use the Hahn block I have (drops from the top), and SBR another 5.56 lower, but I'm concerned about reliability of the Hahn block.

Yeah, I might be crazy, but I never use the 9mm as it is, so at least I'd use it as an SBR.

Yes, you can remove the factory mag blocks as you described.  No magic to it.  I think you are on target with two SBR's - one for 9mm and one for 5.56, switching out the 9mm parts only occasionally.  It's just too much of a hassle to do frequently when lowers and tax stamps are so cheap relative to the cost of uppers.

I have both a 9mm SBR and a 5.56 SBR and it really is, IMO, better than a single SBR swapping parts all the time.

I use the top load Hawn Block in my Bushmaster 9mm and it is solid but can be removed if I wanted.  With that said, if I were to be paying the tax stamp and going to move to a block I would just buy a 5.56 lower and buy the block and leave your factory Colt alone (IE not SBR the 9mm lower).

Of cource, it's your gun and money...

I do have the top load Hahn block already.  I've never used it, as I used to use the suppressed upper on an MG.  Now the MG is gone.  You're happy with the performance of the Hahn?

Oh yea!  It is much better then the bottom mag block like the RRA unit and it works just like the Colt 9mm.  I sold my Colt 9mm quite a few years ago as the Bushmaster clone works just fine and I use mine full auto with my rLL.  I run it with factory Colt mags as well as modified UZI mags.  I have not bought any mags in recent years as I have a lifetime supply so no idea how well the new mags would work but I assume they would be fine.

The only thing I am questioning a bit is if there used to be three models?  There was always the bottom loading one and teh top loading one but I seem to recall mine might have been something of a semi-perminant mount?  I need to dig out my 9mm and get some pictures as it has been more then a few years since I bought it and really have not had to think about it as it just works!

EDIT - There are three versions...

I've had good results with my Hahn top loader too, but I have to use Metalform / old Colt mags.

I have one Colt mag and a few CProducts.  The CProducts jams in my former Colt SMG, the Colt mag was always tits.
