Is there a special tool to remove the screw or an easy way to do this?

You could go and get a 90 degree screwdriver from a hardware store and try that.  Also you could get a flat tip Apex bit and use a 1/4" wrench and remove it. A 1/4" Gearwrench would be perfect.  Snap On sells them for around $10.  For tight spots at work I superglue a shortened apex bit into the Gearwrench.  When finished just pound out the bit.

I am curious as why you want to remove it?  Mine seems to be pretty trouble free as long as it is oiled every so often.

It's in an M-16 and I want to convert back to .223.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I thought that you were talking about the screw that holds in the ball detent in place.  That is the only screw on mine.

Did someone screw it into the receiver?  On the Crossfire it is a simple installation and removal process for the block.

Push in the mag release and stick a thumb into the mag well and tug a bit.  There is a ball  detent that puts a bit of pressure on the mag well to help hold it in place.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Chuck...I am really not this much of a dumbass...well maybe I am.  The guy I bought it from never shot it and had no idea how to remove it.  I don't have any experience with them so I saw the screw and thought that was what was holding it in.  I never think simple.  Thanks!
