Anytime I look on the DPMS site I see a lot of bolt and bolt assemblies for sale, it's advertised that they can just be dropped right into any standard AR assembly and be good to go. Yet I've seen people advising that the fitting should be done by a qualified gunsmith who knows what they're doing. Does anybody have any real experience with this? If the company is manufacturing all of these parts to milspec definition (as they claim they are) shouldn't it be easy to just replace worn parts? |
| You can swap carriers and bolts out and generally be OK. The reason behind having a gunsmith do it is that they can use the GO and NO-GO headspace gauges to ensure that you are within the correct tolerances and thus avoid potential problems. If you are not within the headspace tolerances they will be able to adjust that. It takes a little more experience and tools to do things like that, and thats why its best for a gunsmith to handle that procedure. |
