Just finished building/shooting this Stag lower/upper in 6.8 SPC for my dad's retirement from teaching/coaching after 37 years. He has always been eyeing my AR rifles and he loves to shoot them. I figured he deserved his own. His jaw is going to drop! He won't believe that I built it either. Magpul grip, Rock River barrel saami spec II chamber 1 in 10" twist, Bushnell Elite 4200 3x9 scope, MI low-pro BUIS, 3 PRI mags, and 100 rounds each of my handloads (Sierra 110 grain Pro-Hunters and Nosler 110 grain Accubonds for all the pigs and deer running around his ranch.) Am I missing anything? Maybe a good latch for the charge handle? This was my first scoped rifle build and I loved the results with those handloads. I might add a heavier buffer since the recoils was a bit harsher than the 5.56 AR's I usually shoot. I am taking suggestions since I still have a few weeks before his retirement party. Thanks for the great advice on this forum...I really needed it! |
| My dad is pretty cool. He has always taken care of us. I usually only get to repay him with manual labor on the ranch or truck and tractor repair. I wanted to get him something he would love to have but never would buy himself. 37 years of teaching/coaching deserves something besides a coffee mug they will give him as a retirement gift! |

Yeah that does sound good. What is the big difference between the CTR and the MOE? The CTR has a friction lock. I own one of each and don't really notice any difference as far as function and feel. Maybe a little more wobble in the MOE but not bad at all. |
| Yeah it is going to be a pretty cool gift. The damn thing shoots really well too. Those 110 pro-Hunter's and Accubonds group well under an inch at 100 yards. I will have to add a better trigger for him but that can be later. My wife and kids are excited about it too. |
