Am I the only one who has a box of A2 grips left over from retro builds?
I think I have 15 or 20 of these things scattered around here... What do you guys do with them?? |

What do you guys do with them?? I've used them to make replica 601 grips. They work pretty good, because they are skinnier than most of the standard A1 grips. With that said, it's probably more work than it's worth. The one pictured below was my first experiment at doing it. I gave this one away to a forum member. I think it was "fastswift" if I recall correctly. Yep, Gotta bag full But this blew me away. If the seller is being honest, then try here. http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=338290 Link intentionally made unhot. That does not seem quite right to me. So FALers are not aware of the dime per dozen nature of these |
Skinnier? Most of the A2's I have are fatter if anything. I have one that was reprofiled and stippled, and I love it! (I bought it didn't do the work myself.) I like it so well I plan to make some more, plus a retro VFG. I plan on using one on my prototype build - if I ever get back to work. The damn things really do breed like rabbits. I've given at least 4 or 5 away and somehow I have just as many now as I did 3 years ago! Some are definitely fatter though. I like the feel but not the stupid finger ridge.

| This came up a year or two ago.......I made mention there were half a dozen A2 grips breeding in my basement and I'd be happy to gift them to whatever deluded individual retro freak would be gracious enough to give me his shipping address. One of you wanted them, and only one of you at that, and I cheerfully shipped 'em off. Probably they have turned into 7-dozen grips by now...... |

I have a box full of fake A2 grips as well. I also wish the LPK's wouldn't come with them. I usually order the LPK's that only have the small parts minus the grip and trigger/hammer group anyway, as some after market grip is going on anyway, along with a JP or Geissele.
My fake A2 grips (real ones from Colt are thicker, and made from more substantial glass nylon) will be butchered for retro gangster grips per SOG mods on the XM177E2, as well as early JSOC mods for the 723 and 727 when they became the grip that was used to combine with a Surefire 6P and aviation-grade switches, with internal wiring in the grip to activate the PAQ-4 and Surefire. |

" I also wish the LPK's wouldn't come with them. "
I have often wondered why the standard LPK must include one of these cheap plastic PsoS. Costs them all of 10 cents to include it in the package, and market research probably shows that kits with the grip sell 20% better than without. My practice has been lately to buy individual parts from suppliers to roll my own LPK. Some of the nicer parts are getting scarce and the DPMS kit is convenient. So, they multiply. |

I generally buy FCG and get other parts separately now. I like the thicker Colt spec grips, but the thinner ones just pile up. Everytime I get rid of one, someone else sends me one. BTW, that reminds me to send one as a a 'bonus' in the next package.

Ever since CMMG and a couple of other places started including an 80% scale A2 grip in their LPK I've been able to reduce the number of them in my box.
They don't matter to a retro build, but my interests are not confined to just this era. They are focused here, but not confined. |
| Are you guys just dremeling off the other finger rest and drilling the hole in the bottom? Or what are you doing to "convert" them? I tend to put A1 type grips on all my ARs so if I can avoid having to track down so many real ones(saving those for my retro peices), it would be a great help. Thanks |

The suppliers don't want the dang things either. The grips really aren't part of the kit, the suppliers just stick 'em in to get rid of them. True story, maybe........... |

"Plausable"; definitely believable. Well then, I have a bridge in New York City that I'd like to speak to you about. Make you a heck of a deal! |

Wait. I already bought that bridge. My 2nd fiancee sold it to me on the installment plan. How is my sister, anyway? She hasn't showed up for the last couple of family reunions down at Bubba's Barbecue and Crab Shack. Not that any of us are complaining, mind you..... |

I figured once I'm dead and burried, my kids will sell off a whole box of A2 PG as unknown "retro" stuff that Dad collected for $14 bucks at yard sale.
