I know this has been covered, but could not find threads.  Did the Savage Model 67 pump see use in Vietnam?  If so, any pics of proper configuration?  Were all SGs in 12 gauge or were other gauges common as well?  Thanks in advance.

No. The Stevens Model 77E was used. Seems like the biggest difference was the location of the safety.

Seem to recall that the Coast Guard used some 16ga shotguns during WWII, but not sure if thats what you're wanting to know.

12 gauge has been the US military standard since before WWI

I am looking at a couple of beater Stevens Model 77E.  Can get a genuine GI NOS stock for around $25.  What about finish?  Parkerized?  What would that cost?  As to sling swivels, is the "around the barrel" type correct, or do I need something more substantial?

I bumped the retro shotgun thread for you. All your questions should be answered there. LMK if you find the right sling set up - last I looked they were out of stock.

There were two styles of front sling attachments for the 77E. No ready supply of either are available that I know of.

I'm thinking about trying a fixed sling attachment from an M16A1 trapdoor stock. Actually A2 is the same right? probably easy to find and will hopefully bolt onto the Allen head cap screw at the front slide support.

I am looking at a good candidate for a retro build SG.  Stevens Model 77E.  Question:

I know whare to get correct buttstock, but where can I get the correct "cylindrical" forestock?

Thought I would bump this up.  The question I have is this:
Why do all of the Stevens M77E shotguns I see for sale have the, for lack of a better term, "spoon-shaped" forends (open at the aft end), but all of the retro guns I see on the shotgun threads have a "cylindrical" fore stocks (with steel end caps)?  Did those of you who built up retro M77E guns have to change out the fore stocks?  This is a vexing question for me and looking through the threads has not illuminated the subject.

Not all of the commercial guns have that kind of forend. You will also find that guns with that forend are also cutout at the front of the receiver so even if you change the forend the receiver won't be correct. The reason they come with those is probably to give a little more area to grab for smaller shooters.

If you look carefully at the various Stevens/Savage model listings at Numrich, eventually you'll stumble across them.  That's where I found one.

I'd give you the part number, but can't find copy of invoice from a couple years ago.  Had intended to save that in case somebody asked, but it wasn't where it should be; sorry.
