Hello all,

I bought a STAG AR a couple years back (in NY) and of course it has a pinned 'carbine' stock. I'm looking to replace the stock with something different and I'm thinking that I can reuse the internals and just get away by purchasing the new stock and a buffer tube.

Can someone else with more experience confirm or deny my suspicions?

Thanks,

From your title, I thought you were going to ask about using the internal parts of the buffer itself.  That would be dumb.  Yes, you can reuse the buffer and spring in a new receiver extension.

I strongly recommend getting a true MIL-SPEC receiver extension, rather than one that is just "mil-spec diameter," simply because will get a much more rugged part.  Here's an example at Primary Arms.  This one is not only the right outside diameter, it's made from the correct alloy, and for $20 it's a good buy.

Heh, yeah I thought you meant using the weights inside the buffer which you can also do...it is just a PITA to get the plastic stopper off and back on.  But you can customize buffer weights that way w/o having to buy a new one perhaps.

As for simply using the action spring and buffer in another tube, sure.  All AR parts are interchangeable, every single one.

+1 on sticking to Mil-Spec rather than Commercial. The former uses the more rugged thread-formed 7075-T6 aluminum instead of thread-cut 6061-T6.

I dont think I had a choice anyway with my Stag upper but even if I did, most likely would have gone with mil-spec anyhow.

+1 for a fellow NYer!

You mean STRONG ISLAND, right.  Nassau or slofuk cty, north or south shore. We lived in both cty's on the south shore fled there 30+ years ago.
That's when places like edelmans had walls of semi autos. such as FNC's for the outrageous price of $1200.  Those damn H&K's were really up there, maybe $13-1500.
