Had a weird thing happen at a long range shoot. The buffer weight in my rifle (standard A2 non-adjustable stock) came apart and locked up the bolt.
I took it apart and there was no sign of the roll pin that holds the buffer together. I don't see any way the pin could have come out while the buffer was installed. On top of that, I don't think there is any way the pin could escape the buffer tube even if it did come out of the buffer. I didn't find a pin in there anywhere, so I'm forced to think that it never had one. The rifle has about 500 rounds through it, so I'm surprised it took this long for the plastic part to come out and dump the buffer guts inside the tube. Anyway, here is my question. Does anyone know how the weights are supposed to be installed in the rifle buffer, or does it matter? I can post a pic later today, but I have several thin plastic discs, several short cylindrical weights, and one longer cylindrical weight that has a hole through the middle. I assume the thin discs are pads to go between the other weights, but I don't know where in the assembly the longer weight goes. Thanks |
