For scope mounting - variable power 4-10+ - what's the optimal height for the scope above the bore?  I am using an ASA riser (like Armalite's version) that puts the scope up 2.5" center to center, but with ear protection on it's not a good setup.

Suggestions?

OPTIMAL SCOPE MOUNTING HEIGHT IS A FUNCTION OF THE COMB OF THE STOCK. EUGENE STONER DESIGNED THE IRON SIGHTS TO ACCOMODATE THE ORIGINAL AR-15'S STRAIGHT LINE STOCK.

THERE IS NO WAY WITH A CARRY HANDLE  TO MOUNT A SCOPE OTHER THAN WAY TOO HIGH.

WITH A FLAT TOP UPPER, THE IRON SIGHTS OF THE DETACHABLE CARRY HANDLE ARE 1.4" ABOVE THE TOP OF THE FLAT TOP UPPER RECEIVER. I RECOMMEND YOU MOUNT THE AXIS OF YOUR SCOPE AT OR NEAR THIS HEIGHT.

THERE'S ANOTHER PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: PROPER EYE RELIEF. FOR FURTHER INFO, CHECK OUT OUR THREAD ON AR-15 SCOPE MOUNTING:
