I have a Eotech 512 and I just purchased a used Gen 1 Eotech magnifier with FTS mount on the EE. I am wondering if the 512 need a riser for the two to align correctly? I also wondered if anyone knows what the differences were between the Gen1 and Gen 2 Eotech 3x magnifier? I emailed Eotech a few days ago but haven't received a response. Thanks for the help.

I believe you will need a 7mm riser for everything to line up properly. I have a XPS and Gen 1 magnifier and need to mount the XPS on a riser for it to work properly.
edit. To answer your 2nd question, just found this on the Eotech site: "This is the 2nd Generation of L3 EOTech magnifiers. It offers a half inch more eye relief, positions the windage and elevation adjustments inside of the optic rather than in the mount, less moving parts in the mount which makes the mount even more stable, and has a quick release thow lever on the bottom of the mount which allows the quick removal of both the optic and the mount. This magnifier aligns perfectly with standard height sights and comes with a 7mm riser to accomadate the 7mm raised sights." |

The 512 is the same height as the XPS and doesn't have the built in riser, so will need to be mounted on a riser to line up with a Gen 1 magnifier.
Looking at the Larue website, the details for the LT-110 riser (which is designed for Eotech's) states: "The LT-110 EoTech Mount will work correctly with 511, 512, 551, 552, XPS-2, XPS-3 and similar models. It will NOT work with 516, 553 or 557 models (because they have a built-in riser)." As an alternative, you could replace the OE mount with the Larue LT-670EO mount which is at the same height as the 512 without the need for a riser. |

Well this isn't what Eotech has to say about it. They finally emailed me back and said since the 512 doesn't have side mounted controls it also doesn't have the riser. The Gen 1 magnifier splits the difference between the lower Eotech mounts and the 7mm raised units. Therefore it will work for both with no need of a riser. They said there was enough adjustment in the mount to work with either type of mount. I suppose we will see when it arrives in a few days. But thanks for the help.

Interesting. Let me know how you get on when it's mounted. I would have thought without the riser you are going to see the top of the HWS through the mag. I'm surprised there is that much adjustment in the mount. edit: Just been emailing a shooting buddy who has the same set-up as you (512/gen1 mag/fts mount). He has confirmed that without a riser you will see the top of the HWS through the magnifier. It will still work, but for a clearer sight picture you will need to raise the 512. A Larue LT-110 will get the job done, although American Defense and Yankee Hill Machine also make Eotech specific risers. Dan |

Well thanks for everyone for the replies. The magnifier is at the house and I hope to have time soon and get it mounted and see what I need if anything. I actually prefer a true co witness instead of 1/3 rd. I will report what I find out though.
Thanks again, I really do appreciate the info. NCH |
