Has anyone used this for a BCG? If so how is it holding up?
Thanks, Po-Po |

Electroless nickle with PTFE aka teflon suspended in the matrix is NP3. My BCG and Bolt are NP3 plated, as is the upper half of my G22. It holds up great, makes cleaning a snap, and add lubricity. Well worth the money. how has your BCG held up to wear? do you find that you need less lube? |

Well worth the money. LWRC uses electroless nickle/PTFE on their carriers... holds up fine... not as tough as hard chrome but more corrosion resistant and slicker. |

Robar did one of my BCGs about 10 years ago, and it has held up just fine. Thanks for the replies everyone. I am thinking about doing my AR-10 BCG as the backorder for chrome is like forever. PoPo I just had my S&W 5.45 BCG hard chromed by Metaloy Industries. It cost $130 including shipping and was back in a little over a week. EXCELLENT work, cleans up REAL easy! Highly recommended. |
| I'm local to them and have shot a friends Sig that has the NP3 coating, it's very nice and has held up amazingly well for the 10+ years it's been on the gun. My SPAS-12 shotgun is scheduled to go to them next month when I have a 2-week business trip to get the coating as well. I can't wait to see what it's like when I get it back! |

Quoted: That's it, I've been on the fence for a while but this thread has convinced me to get my P228 refinished w/ NP3... Maybe I'll have to send a BCG along as well.... If you can get it shipped to them by tomorrow you will just barely be in time for their holiday special... http://www.robarguns.com/specials.htm |

Thanks for the heads up! |

I have a Robar NP3'd BCG that runs like butter and cleans with a cotton ball... http://www.imageviper.com/displayimage/109272/0/lmybushy3.JPG That looks awesome. Can you take one of just the BCG? I think it looks better than a chrome carrier. Po-Po |

I would be curious to see how well the tail of the bolt and the inside of the carrier clean up. Still needs a little scrubbing as the bulk of the gases end up here. By "scrubbing" do you mean scratching at it with a pick-type object to SCRAPE it off or just a twist or two with a green 3M Scotch-Brite pad? |

I meant mainly the bolt tail area. That is usually my "indicator" of how dirty it's gotten, i.e. if it's so encrusted that you have to scrape at it with a stripper clip piece of brass or other scraping object. |

Best NP3 cleaner imo is FLITZ metal polish. Nothing else will remove 100% of all fouling but it does make the NP3 coated part shinny. Since its a polish its not someting to use on a daily basis. I was thinking that if the NP3 could stand up to repeated firing and rubbing of the bolt and carrier together that a green Scotchbrite pad would probably (and safely) remove any fouling rather quickly. |

Yes but its more abbrasive than Flitz and you get little green pumicy shit everywhere. It also leaves little marks in the finish and you can see a grain to it. Too coarse IMO. Flitz on teh other hand does not seem to wipe off too well. It takes liek 4 wipings off before its all off but you can make the part look 100% new again. It gets into all the little imperfections in the finish that hold crap. |

I remember using them in the Army (20+ years ago) for that purpose. I believe there are several different coarseness levels available. DevL, I'm a piston fan like you. Having said that, I think there are things like NP3 and proper cleaning utensils that can come reasonably close. |

Do they take off the gas key and then restake it or just refinish the BC assembly as one piece? I asked the exact same question as I was debating when to use my MOACKS––-before or after finishing. They said they did NOT remove the key, which is different than getting it hard chromed for instance (at least the one I had done by Metaloy––-they stripped it). So I used the MOACKS before I sent it in. |

Didn't ask. I assume it too is NP3'd. |
