I've seen numerous references to roll marks and haven't found this defined. Can someone please explain what roll marks are?

A roll mark is the lettering/logo on a receiver. The roll mark is usually done by a roll stamp but alot of MFG's are now Milling all of the markings.

because when they started doing it it was literally a big "rolling stamp"(for lack of a better term) with recent technology and computer controlled 3D milling machines its become easier to just mill the markings in when the receivers are in the 3D mill...
