I am going to order a few sets of roll pins for my AR15's. As cheap as they are figured I would go ahead and stock up - always nice to have extra parts.
I've got the sizes I need but noticed I have two choices of pins when ordering –– plain steel and 420 stainless steel... Do y'all know which ones to use on the AR ? Thanks! |
| I don't see a need for extra roll pins unless you lose one. The receivers will break or be damaged before those damned hard roll pins. Stainless pins make as much sense as beating a dead horse. You'll be long dead before one of those standard roll pins gives up the ghost. Just my opinions. Id buy extra springs and plungers first..., |

Id buy extra springs and plungers first..., Already got extra plungers and springs Well that's pretty much it.. not so much 'in case one breaks' but more for builds or when I loose one taking something apart.. for about 10 bucks I can stock up on several pins for all my firearms... I have tackle boxes full of stuff, always looking for more really just trying to understand the difference between the regular plain steel pins and the 420 stainless - what are the 'mil spec' pins that come on most AR's?. Are they stainless or plain? and if they are plain will stainless be too much for the aluminum parts? |

The stainless roll pins would be good for Nickle or chrome applications (looks). Otherwise both will work the same and do the same job. Putting a stainless roll pin in your black alloy will appear you buggered the end of the pin while installing, Imo....Mike |
