I posted about this in the "AR Discussians" and got a recomendation to buy a small parts set(good advice).
So here's the deal. My son and I ran my new Del Ton carbine quite a few rounds last Saturday. She works great, no problems at all. I've owned the gun several months with no issues. Sunday, I wiped both my AR's down, and gave a light clean job. I noticed the forward assist rollpin on the DTI carbine had worked it's way out the bottom of it's hole about 3/8"!! I pulled the upper off and gently tapped the rollpin back into place. The rollpin seemed to have decent friction going back in, the FA goodies were all still in place, and all works good. I burned 30 more shots out of the new DTI A2 carbine, and the pin stayed put. I'm positive the pin worked loose during Saturday's shooting. Like stated, I've owned the carbine since last September. I've fired and fondeled it enough to know it was all put together nicely before then, no rollpins hanging out.I've fired the gun maybe 500 rounds through it previously, and maybe 200 or so rounds last Saturday. I experienced a similiar issue with My Century C15 a month ago. It's rear sight rollpin crawled out a small distance on a couple occasions. The Century refurb uses recycled rollpins, so I just put in a new one and stopped that issue. I will replace this rollpin too, no big deal, however I was curious if anybody else has experienced new rifles with crawling rollpins? Should a guy put a small dab of LocTite on one end of the rollpins? Thanx, 17 |

My DTI carbine must be a FREAK!! I guess I could just drop a nail in the hole and bend it over. I'm guessing that likely I got a bogus rollpin in the DTI gun. It's a new pin, looks new anyhow. But could be undersized. I'll stick another in for sure, don't like finding parts about to fall off my guns. The upper doesn't have much for markings. Does have a little "keyhole" forge mark on the right side. Just for my curiousity, who makes the keyhole marked uppers? I saw a thread just not long back on the keyhole marked uppers, however the AR15.COM forum search is about useless(or you need to be a team member)! Thanx. |
