Is DPMS the only manufacturer of rounded, non-notched hammers? Like this:

No, but I'm not sure who else does.  M16 equipment isn't notched and you can trim the hook off for legality reasons.  I have a few different ones.  Some are DPMS, some are bobbed M16 and others just came that way.

Olympic Arms produce hammers just like you show.  I don't know who is making DPMS' hammers but it may very well be Oly.

Who sells DPMS small parts (other than DPMS)?

ETA: never mind. Midway has them.

Dpms hammers are modified M16 burst hammers.  See the wide contact area for the extra burst disconnector ??

Yep, never noticed or thought to look.  Would you infer, then, that these hammers may be of some quality and hold up to some abuse.  I hope so, as I am running a few right now.

Actually the Dpms Lpk`s are great except for the bolt hold open in my experience, which can be of dubious quality.  I`ve run Dpms hammers in most of my builds with no problems.  Combined with a M16 carrier you will notice a much smoother feel when you pull the charging handle.

That's good to know.  And conicidently, I found an out of spec bolt stop in one of my lowers today - fully depressed, it would not catch the bolt.  Something is bent or wrong with it.  I'll replace it with something I know is good.  Thanks for the info.

I have about 12k through my carbine that has a DPMS bolt group and lower kit from Brownell's-it has never malfunctioned, believe it or not.

What's up with M16 hammers?
Will any mfr. sell me one?
If they will, do I have about .02 seconds to get it to the grinder?
That's not a problem for me, but I want to make sure that an M16 part sitting
in my mailbox isn't a ticket to bubba-town...

You're kidding, right?

In case you're not, no an M16 hammer is not going to get you into any trouble; though I would advise you to grind off the full auto tab before you install it.

The DPMS hammer I have is unmarked, while the trimmed M16A2 hammer in another piece has mfr's code marks on it.  Otherwise, they look and function the same.
