| Just wondering if anyone here had any experience / opinions on running an Edgewater buffer in a retro build. We know they were problematic (too light?) and so they were replaced, I'm just wanting to hear personal experience here of how they 'feel' in comparison to a regular rifle buffer. Any difference to note in a semi? more jarring? I'm curious as to whether they feel different in operation. |
| I have an Edgewater in my 602 clone, and it runs like a top. They are remarkably lighter than a modern buffer, and I was a little timid about actually using it in the rifle at the range, but even after about a hundred rounds or so,it was still functioning just fine.It does seem to feel a little different though, with less mass slamming back and forth in the tube, because then I picked up my A1 and it felt a little less harsh, probably due to the heavier buffer absorbing some of the recoil .Mind you, we're talking about .223, so the recoil is negligible anyway, but I did feel a little difference in smoothness of cycling between the two.Still, the Edgewater ran just fine. |
| Tell you what guys, I have a factory M16A1 and an Edgewater buffer. I need to make a trip to the range anyway so Monday I'll video a comparison. I have a few hundred rounds of factory Lake City M193 loaded with the standard ball powder so it will tell the true story. |
Sweet!!! I look forward to the report. |
As promised. Here are links to a couple of videos on You Tube. I test fired ten rounds with each buffer. Both performed flawlessly. It seems that the Edgewater buffer had a slightly higher cyclic rate but it was hardly noticeable. Testing was done with current production Lake City M193 55 grain ball ammunition. M16A1 with standard buffer M16A1 with Edgewater buffer |
on my scale i am getting 1.8 oz for the edgewater. a new production rifle buffer comes in at 4.8 oz. i would have thought there was more difference between the two. if you hold them in your hands its like a rock versus a feather. |
