| I was reading about how weapons stored in Pelican cases with the open cell foam can cause rust because the foam traps moisture. Well, I've been using the Pelican cases for long term storage (well, 2-3 years). Where should I start checking for rust? I haven't seen any rust on the outside at all...would it be inside the barrel? Thanks. |
| Just get yourself some "Barricade" rust preventative, comes in a spray can or package of treated towlettes. I use it twice a year about 8- 9 months apart and have never had any rust. I alsto toss some small dessicant packs in my cases to help absorb any moisture. You can get them from Brownells or any other gun parts store. |

The pick n pluck type foam I have in my case is open cell I believe. I think closed cell foam is an option or maybe even standard on some other models, but the one I got was open cell.
I think I'll switch to the closed cell soon just to be safe cause I do travel to other places on the east coast etc... |

Keep'm dry and use an anti-rust product, you should be fine.
Don't store them damp in an open-cell foam case: http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/6862/p1010506tb7.jpg I loaned gave my brother this 1100 to use while his shotgun was at the 'smith. He took it duck hunting and stored it moist. He learned his lesson to wipe them down and store them with air-flow. I learned my lesson not to loan give guns to anybody. (A loan of over 12 hours is considered a reportable transfer in the state of Minnesota, as I understand the law) |
