I haven't seen many ( if any ) threads on the SAM-R rifle here, so I need a question answered. What barrel contour was/is used on these rifles ? Anyone have a pic of their SAM-R they want to post ?

Thanks

IM jcrowl I think he has a clone of one with the correct contour

Barrel: The barrel is a 20" (508 mm) long 1:7" (178 mm) twist match-grade stainless steel barrel, manufactured by Compass Lake Engineering from Kreiger blanks. Current SAM-Rs are equipped with 'chipped' flash suppressors to allow attachment of the KAC M4 quick detach silencer, while earlier examples were fielded with standard compensators.
Wikipedia search SAM-R
This excerpt is from Wikipedia and mentions nothing of fluting or profile. Call CLE if you have the money I am sure they will make you one of the Kriegers. You can't get more original than that.

Thanks for the replies. So is Krieger the barrel of choice by The Corps ( I can understand why ) ?

Here's my SAM-R clone. Barrel is a 1/7 Krieger match barrel.

what made you decide not to use the ARMS rings on that? it seems thats what I see on all the DMR rifles in pics. just not like them?

Yes, The army uses a Douglas barrel on their SDM-R

I Had a lot of help from retired CWO Ken Davis, who helped design the SAM-R at Quantico. He said the Marines have now gone to the Larue Scope mount instead of the ARMS

Beautiful rifle, thanks for the pics.
Is that a PRI sight/gas block ? Has The Corps stopped using the KAC unit ?

Yes it's a PRI block. The Corps is still using the KAC unit but it's not available to the public

Says who?

The KAC gas block/front sight is the single most difficult item to obtain to complete the build, they do show up on EE now and then.

I don't think it's anything special, the lever on top to release the sight isn't as intuitive to me as the PRI or Troy push button release, and its use of pins to attach to the barrel ensures a custom job, or at least something you have to send it away for.  Fortunately my barrel's pin holes are close enough I did it myself.

KAC will sell them if you have them do the install through the only person they authorize to do them....I didnt have a problem getting mine done...

Lol it's a boring rifle to me, especially since I already have an SPR Mod1, they share many common parts, I was wondering why I built it (I was bored )

Leupold Mk4 3.5-10X LR/T on the SAM-R, and Mk4 3-9X MR/T on the SPR.

I'm not a big fan of Leupold scopes, they do the job, I love US Optics but I try not to take too many detours when making clones
