I thought about this a while ago. Asked a few questions regarding the legal side of making a sbr on a Form-1.  Kinda got the bug again to do it.  I have a DMPS lower I am thinking about turning into a SBR.  I am considering the project mainly to have AR's in various sizes with various purposes.  I already have a full size(R6600), a carbine length(MT6731),  a pre-ban carbine(SP1-R6001) and a 9mm carbine(AR6450)

My questions relate to the function and accuracy of the weapon.

I have read that there are gas tube issues with the shorter barrel length uppers. Would the purchase of a pre-assembled 11.5 inch upper solve some those issues? (Like if I bought the whole thing from DPMS to make it the same as the lower)

How much accuracy will I loose?  I know I won't have 300 meter accuracy, but would I have 100 meter? Or would it be less? Would ammo choices change this?  What about twist rate?

Other than having the "nifty" look of the 11.5 inch upper, is there any advantages to having the SBR?  Is it a good choice for an entry gun? Is it better for CQB stuff? Disadvantages?

Any input would be appreciated.

Mine is assembled from parts. Barrel started life as a Bushmaster 11.5-5.5 in '90.  I cut the 5.5 off and still use the barrel today. I can shoot 1 1/2 @ 100 with chear scope and Hornady handloads.

Only time you will have problem is if you try to run full auto with a "shorty" recoil system.
Preventitive set-up will include change extractor spring to the a Wolff extra-power, Colt M4 (denoted by black insert, or a simple 29 cent #60 o-ring from the neighborhood Lowes, Home Depot, ACE, Sears Hardware plumbing aisle.
