My goal is to have 6 more AR's for every member of my family, so that when my kids are grown they will have the means to defend their family. I would like to have these before the election for obvious reasons, but I only  have enough funds right now for 1 AR or I could use that money to buy 6 stripped lowers. There's the dilema.. buy 6 lowers or 1 complete setup?

What's your opinion?

Thanks.

Get the lowers. Build them to suit each person that will use it.

Lowers! buy an extra one so if this S does HTF you can sell one to finance the building of the rest of the guns.

i would go the 1 complete gun - if the dems win there will be another awb and i highly doubt they will make the same mistakes they did the last time.  i would rather have 1 gun definitely and not 6 possibly useless lowers.  also, do you have enough mags and ammo to go aorund?

legal transfers is doing a decent group buy for $599 for a m4gery kit less lower - cl 1x9 brl, mi buis...thinking of getting one myself.

hell, if you are that worried, put it on a cc - times could be bad but hopefully palin will pull the win out for us.

by the way, anybody know how she stands on awbs?  i know she is a hunter but many times there are vast differences between hunters and politics and what is considered a "hunting" firearm vs a "assault weapon"

Even if a more restrictive AWB occurs, you'll see it coming and be able to focus on getting the remaining components....and as for Palin's stance on Gun Control:

Hunts and fishes, as did her father
Her father shot the grizzly bear whose hide is now draped over the sofa in her office. She, too, hunts and fishes. She runs marathons. She delivered her fifth child during her first term as governor. They call her husband, the reigning champion in the annual Iron Dog snowmachine race, First Dude.
Though indisputably Alaskan, she rose to prominence by bucking the state's rigid Republican hierarchy, impressing voters more with gumption, warmth and charm than an established record in government.

Hunts as much as she can; freezer-full of wild game
Like many Alaskans, Gov. Sarah Palin is a lifelong hunter and strong proponent of Second Amendment rights. A longtime member of the National Rifle Association, she told USA Today when she was running for governor as a Republican in 2006 that "We hunt as much as we can, and I'm proud to say our freezer is full of wild game we harvested here in Alaska." Palin's favorite food? "Moose stew after a day of snowmachining," she said.

Supports ending D.C.'s 32-year-old ban on handguns
Governor Sarah Palin today lauded the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark decision upholding the right of Americans to own guns for self-defense, hunting and other purposes. The high court's 5-4 ruling in District of Columbia vs. Heller affirmed gun rights by striking down the District's 32-year-old ban on handguns.
"This decision is a victory for all Alaskans and individual Americans. The right to own guns and use them responsibly is something I and many other Alaskans cherish," Governor Palin said. "I applaud the Court for standing up for the Constitution and the right of Americans to keep and bear arms."

The state of Alaska in February joined a multi-state amicus brief written by the state of Texas in support of the Second Amendment right of individual Americans to bear arms.

Lifelong NRA member & champion of right to bear arms
Governor Sarah Palin announced the State of Alaska will join the multi-state amicus brief authored by the State of Texas in support of the Second Amendment right of individual Americans to bear arms. The Texas amicus brief in the case Washington, D.C. v. Heller will be filed by February 11, 2008.
Governor Palin, a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association, has long been a champion of the constitutional right to bear arms, as well as a proponent of gun safety programs for Alaska's youth.

"I am proud to join the State of Texas in support of the Second Amendment," Governor Palin said. "We need to send a strong message that law-abiding citizens have a right to own firearms, for personal protection, for hunting and for any other lawful purpose."

If you really believe this, then you to also invest in a set aside minimum combat load of ammo/mags for each + training ammo. Otherwise you have best case 6 additional clubs.

+1

You may want to go ahead and get the lower parts kits while you are at it.  If a ban ever takes place again, there is no telling what parts they may label as bad.  At least then you will have the means to make a functional lower.  And if/when your kids are old enough, they can do the lower builds with daddy's help.

I am planning on picking up 5 stripped lowers myself in the next couple of months.

If you can have 6 guns built within a year, maybe two, get the lowers, and atleast 12k rounds (2k per).. seriously.  and don't touch it unless McCain is elected.

Split the difference.

Get at least two AR's built (since having no AR's and a bunch of paper weights doesn't do anyone anygood), and then buy four lowers.

Keep the AR's as KISS as possible to be able to buy the lowers.

Yes you do, but not in this forum.

Its my understanding that the mods frown on dragging a subject off topic.

In that regard, get the lowers and mags. The remaining parts have always been cheaper during hard times.

Lowers, Hi Cap mags, and Collapsible stocks in that order if you can find the funds.

I checked AIM Surplus a little while ago and they had Double Star lowers for $100 and if your really hurting Superior Arms for $80.  Also they're running decent deals on C-products mags ($9/ea for green follower and $10/ea for Magpul follower.)  I don't remember what the price was on the PMags though.
