im stuck between the arms sir and the ras II, will a pistol grip and a bipod mounted on the bottom rail fit on the sir? the bottom rail looks too small to have both on there at the same time, oh this is for an m4 type not a 20 inch model...

from what i've read (read;this may not be correct) the SIR comes with a couple rails in different sizes that you can put on it. you could probably get a longer one.  i think bipods look goofy on a carbine.  i'm just planning to put a forward grip.

I'm in the same situation you are in.  I'm either going to purchase the SIR or RAS II.  I believe the SIR's are only for carbines but I could be wrong.

Plenty or room to mount a bipod and forward grip on the RAS II, since the rail extends the length of the unit, but why would you want to?

The bottom rail on the SIR measures a little more than 3-7/8".  Depends on the foregrip, but that sounds a little close to mount both, again why would you want to do that?

The RAS II and SIR #45, 46, and 50 are for A3 carbine configured AR's.   ARMS is going to release a rifle length SIR in a short while that does not require the removal of the barrel nut.

Knight's offers a FF (Free Float) RAS in rifle length as of now.  PRI make a FF in either Carbine or Rifle Length as well.  These models as well as others (cmore, oly FIRSH, etc.) require the removel of the barrel nut and all that fun stuff(headspacing, torque setting, removel of flash supressor/brake, sight tower/gasblock. etc.) if you are up for it.

because both systems are free float, so why not add a bipod for some bench rest shooting, this is the only thing i dont like about ar15.com, instead of people anwering someones question they question them why they would want to do something like that. like jsut telling them "oh dont do that, its stupid". the person didnt ask if you like the idea or not, just if its possible.

With a SIR you get two short rails, marked #1 and #2, and a longer rail, marked #3.  The #3 rail is about the length of two short rails.

You can now get a longer #4 rail, which is about the length of a short and long rail.  It will almost cover the entire length of the SIR.

On the bottom of a SIR, you can attach two short rails (#1/#2), the long rail (#3), or the longer rail (#4).

Plenty of rail for anything you'd want to attach.

Sure add the bipod for benchrest shooting, just remove the foregrip first.  Now it's a non issue.  Just curious why you would want to weigh down your tactical carbine in CQB conditions with a bipod?  That's all.

ARMS make a throw lever foregrip (#23) and a throw lever bipod mount (#32) which would allow for seemless exchange between the two.

Sorry you took offense, but IMHO, you are trying to achieve two different applications with one gun at the same time.  Unfortunitely one of those applications will be hindered.

Yes, you have to purchase it separately.

About the price, I'd estimate cost at around $30-$40.

To find out the price and to purchase, you can either contact ARMS directly through their website www.armsmounts.com or one of the vendors that is known on this site.

If not ARMS, I recommend MSTN mstn.biz.

that wasnt meant directly at you, its just a common problem i run into on this site, i mean if someone wants to have both a forward grip on it and a bipod because he wants to put on his rifle, someone shouldnt be like, well that will defeat the purpose of having a cqb rife, i didnt say i wanted a cqb rifle, all i said is i want a grip & bipod on it, so why do people fell like it is their duty to point out that isnt the correct thing to do because the cool army guy pics dont have that, and if ya do you will have too much weight to defeat the jackboots invading your city, come on, just help someone out with info on how to do it, dont question them on it because its not something you would do
